📢Today, the MLSC launched the BioBoost program to expand biomanufacturing and medtech advanced manufacturing in Massachusetts. The program provides up to $3 million for companies and nonprofit partners to build or scale operations, and up to $500,000 for developers to prepare sites for future life sciences use.

Through a rotating focus on pressing diseases areas, the MLSC Women’s Health Initiative ensures a broad spectrum of women’s health topics are addressed. This cycle, we're focusing on two critical, yet historically overlooked, conditions: Pregnancy-Induced Hypertension and Perimenopause/Menopause.

Through its Women’s Health Collaboration program, the MLSC aims to incentivize translational projects that develop novel solutions to treat conditions that solely or disproportionately affect women or have different presentations between genders. Together with Industry and non-profit researchers, the MLSC will accelerate discoveries from bench to bedside.

MLSC President and CEO Kirk Taylor, MD and the Center team recently spent a "truly inspiring" day at Worcester Polytechnic Institute to meet with leaders, tour MLSC-funded lab facilities, and celebrate this year’s MeDHigh graduates.

WPI’s MeDHigh, a four-week biomedical engineering training program offered as part of the MLSC’s High School Apprenticeship Challenge, is designed to prepare students for MLSC-sponsored internships with local MedTech companies. Since 2024, 27 students from various Worcester high schools have participated in the MeDHigh program, which has been supported by the MLSC with more than $140,000 to assist with the program’s design and implementation.

In Massachusetts, significant health care affordability challenges persist. The MLSC, in collaboration with the Division of Insurance and the Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED), is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) from stakeholders regarding innovative approaches to managing high-risk claimants within the Commonwealth’s unique merged health insurance market.

The objective is to explore models that facilitate early intervention and high-quality care for high-risk individuals while achieving premium reductions for the broader merged market risk pool.
