On September 9th, employees at TIAA/Nuveen assembled 40 hygiene kits and made 5 no-sew blankets for our guests!

In each kit there is soap and shampoo, chapstick, shaving cream and razors, lotion, and more! Employees even left little handmade cards of encouragement in each pack.

Thank you for supporting your unhoused neighbors! We appreciate your partnership.

In late August we received a gift like no other — live music for the benefit of CDCW, featuring Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Garrison Starr!

Each year, music lovers Hillary and David Kohler host an intimate house concert in their living room, with proceeds and in-kind donations going to a charity of their choice. This year CDCW was the lucky recipient!

About 30 people gathered for an evening of beautiful music while supporting CDCW. Audience members brought much-needed hygiene items including underwear and undershirts for our guests.

A huge thank you to Hillary and David, everyone who attended and donated, and of course the fabulous Garrison Starr for sharing her talent with us! What a special evening it was! ❤️🎶

Once again, our friends at New England Donor Services (NEDS) have selected the CDCW as the recipient of their Team Building and Community Service Project.

Last year, NEDS generously gifted the CDCW with 75 backpacks for our guests, each filled to the brim with thoughtful goodies. This year, they will be providing more than 60 blankets for guests participating in our Night Program.

NEDS’ Community Health in Action (CHiA) Initiative Steering Committee Members, Nina Udwin and Keith Kennedy, together with their other CHiA colleagues, continue to support the CDCW as individuals and through their organization. Their ongoing commitment to our community is so appreciated.

We are incredibly grateful for their continued focus on community needs, particularly their dedication to supporting our unhoused neighbors. Their generosity and partnership make a meaningful difference to the individuals we serve.

Check out our “Welcome to Your New Home Kits!”

Each guest moving into a new apartment gets one of these special kits put together by the incredible volunteer and donor, Anne B.!

Anne B. has been a regular donor to the CDCW since 2022, and we are so grateful for her continued generosity. Whether we need gloves, hats, jackets, pillows, blankets, shorts, or just about anything else, Anne is always looking for ways to help.

Anne is a great bargain hunter and puts her Crazy Bucks from Ocean State Job Lot to good use, making sure our folks have what they need to stay comfortable and dressed for the season.

Since 2025, Anne has taken her generosity a step further by putting together “Welcome to Your New Home” kits for people moving into new apartments. She packs each kit in a kitchen trash can and fills it with the basics needed to get settled—bathroom cleaners, a shower curtain and hooks, a mop, broom and dustpan, and plenty of kitchen supplies.

The kitchen items include pot holders, towels, cooking utensils, storage bags, aluminum foil, sponges, multipurpose cleaners, and even the essentials like mustard, mayo, and ketchup.

Anne puts a lot of thought into these donations, and it shows. We truly appreciate all that she does for the CDCW and the people we serve. Thank you, Anne, for your kindness, generosity, and for always thinking of ways to help!

We need your help getting a guest settled into their new apartment! 🏠

If you have a queen-size mattress that is new or very gently used and in good condition, we could really use your help. If you’re able to drop it off at our agency, please give us a call first so we can arrange a convenient time: 781 392 6311

We’re also looking for new queen-size sheets that fit the mattress.

For larger items like a mattress, please do not drop them off without calling first to arrange a time.

Thank you for helping us make a house feel like home! ❤️

It’s that time of year again!

We rely on funds from our annual Fall Fundraiser to fuel some of our most important programs:

🥗daily lunch for those in need

🚿showers and laundry services for folks sleeping outside

🏡 case management, which places 25-30 unhoused people per year into homes of their own

👕the Shop at 20 Felton Street, where guests access free clothing

🧼hygiene items for those in need

…and more!

Please join us for our Fall Fundraiser to keep these services in place for years to come. Registration is here: https://www.communitydaycenter.org/gala-2026

✨✨🐕 Vets & Pets 🐈‍⬛✨✨

Research on homelessness and companion animals is limited, but according to the Animal Welfare Institute, up to approximately 25% of people experiencing homelessness have a pet.

At CDCW, we know how important that bond is. We’ve seen guests skip meals so their pets can eat and sleep outside rather than leave them behind.

🐾 Through Vets & Pets, we’re able to provide free veterinary care, collect and distribute dog and cat food, and help keep pets healthy alongside the people who love them. A special thank you to Dr. Monica Mansfield, who regularly volunteers her time and expertise to care for our guests’ beloved companions.

❤️ Because caring for our community includes caring for every member of the family.
