Local celebrations help shape historic downtown commercial districts.

In Walterboro, bicentennial banners mark 200 years of history and bring color, energy, and visibility to the downtown district.

When celebration and design come together, small touches can completely change the feel of downtown. Banners, flags, and simple street elements help people reconnect with the district and spend more time in it.

The Lowcountry Council of Governments (LCOG) has launched a public survey to gather input for the 2055 Long-Range Transportation Plans (LRTPs) for the Lowcountry region.

The LRTP is a comprehensive transportation planning document that guides transportation investments in both the urban and rural areas of the Lowcountry. The plan establishes the region’s long-term transportation vision, identifies current and future transportation needs, and allocates anticipated funding to programs and projects that address those needs over the next 20 years and beyond.

LCOG will accept survey responses and public comments on the 2055 LATS and LCOG LRTPs from June 8, 2026, through July 8, 2026.

To complete the survey, submit comments and share priorities for the plan, visit
