Our innaugural annual meeting wasn't just about the 2025-2026 fiscal year, it also gave us the opporunity to celebrate one of our own. Congratulations to Steve Murdaugh, who was named our first-ever Economic Development Champion. Steve has been a tireless advocate for local and regional economic development in his 28 years on Colleton County Council and more than a decade as a board member at SouthernCarolina Alliance , where he currently serves as chairman.

On Independence Day this year, we commemorate the 250th anniversary of our country thanks to Valley Forge Flag. With help from the company, CCEA was proud to provide every county department head a new America 250 flag manufactured in Smoaks to commemorate the occasion. The flags will be flying proudly at every county office for the rest of the year.

SouthernCarolina Alliance’s podcast series, Behind the Golden Shovel, was onsite today to visit with QMP at their new facility located at 153 Anderson Road. Formerly known as “Project Quail” QMP announced last fall they had selected Colleton County as their first east coast location. A cutting edge manufacturer of reverse osmosis water filtration systems, the family-owned company headquartered in Valencia, Ca. and founded by Freddy Vidal, has committed to invest $5.1 Million and provide 233 jobs in Colleton County. QMP is finishing a renovation of their building and setting manufacturing equipment. A grand opening is planned for this fall.

We’re so proud of our own Donna Chapman Lamb ! Donna graduated from the Santee Cooper Envoy Program Friday, May 1. She completed a year-long study of the mission, key responsibilities and achievements of the S.C. Public Service Athority as well as an intensive look at power generation in South Carolina.
