🌟 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: The Work Behind the Scenes

When you think about volunteering at the Walpole Community Food Pantry, you might picture packing boxes or helping distribute food. But some of the most important work happens behind a computer.

Meet Mary Shaheen and Susan Higgins, two of our Digital Scouts! They monitor the Greater Boston Food Bank’s online inventory, help select the food WCFP needs each week, and place orders — all before the food ever arrives at the Pantry.

Mary puts her background in software engineering to work helping with food logistics, while Susan volunteers right from her porch with her morning coffee. ☕️

Their stories are a great reminder that there’s more than one way to make a difference. As Mary says, “Give it a shot. It can be as flexible as you need it to be and you can find a good fit.”

Even a small amount of time can have a meaningful impact. 💙

🛒 Can You Help WCFP? Costco Helpers Needed!

We're looking for a volunteer to join an experienced Pantry driver on some upcoming Costco runs.

📅 Thursdays, September 10, 17 & 24
⏰ Meet your driver/partner at the Pantry at 10:00 a.m.
🏁 Wrap up around 12:00–1:00 p.m.

What you'll do 🚐

Your partner will drive the Pantry van to Costco. You'll help pick up and load the food, bring it back to the Pantry, and unload and stock it in our warehouse.

There are about 40–50 boxes per run, so you'll need to be comfortable lifting 30–40 pounds.

You don't need to commit to all three dates. If you can help on even one, we'd love to hear from you! 🙌

There’s More Than One Way to Help 💙
You don't have to volunteer every week to make a difference at the Walpole Community Food Pantry.

You can:

🥫 Donate food or needed household items
💙 Make a financial donation
🤝 Volunteer your time
🚗 Help with food pickups or deliveries
📣 Share information about the Pantry with someone who may need it
🏢 Support the Pantry through your workplace or employer matching program

And sometimes, simply sharing a post can make a difference.

The Pantry is 100% volunteer-run, and our community makes everything we do possible. So whether you give your time, your resources, your skills—or simply help spread the word—thank you! Every little bit helps us keep nutritious food moving to our neighbors who need it. 💙
