🎉We closed out Affordable Housing Month with the Grand Opening of Hayward Senior Commons, a new 80-unit affordable housing community in Alameda County.

Hayward Senior Commons provides homes for individuals aged 55 and older earning between 30% and 60% of the Area Median Income. It is thoughtfully designed and built with features that support sustainability, community, and allows residents to age in place.

Developed on former BART land, residents will enjoy a range of amenities that promote connection and well-being, including an inviting landscaped outdoor patio and additional patio for resident-led gardening.

“This community demonstrates that, with the right partnerships and disciplined ex*****on, we can deliver high-quality affordable housing efficiently,” said Cynthia Alvarez, President and CEO of CCH. “Leasing was completed in less than one month, underscoring both the urgent need for this type of housing and the importance of bringing these developments to life quickly across California.”

At the celebration, we heard from elected leaders, partners, and residents. The most powerful words came from resident Roberta Tracy, who shared:

“To finally reclaim a sense of affordable independence in this beautiful, brand-new facility is a gift I don’t take for granted,” said resident Roberta Tracy. “Moving here isn’t just about having a roof over my head—it’s about starting a new chapter where I can focus on what brings me joy.”

We’re also grateful to the community leaders and partners who helped mark this occasion, including, Elisa Márquez, George Syrop, Elizabeth V***a representing Dr. Aisha Wahab, as well as the residents who shared their personal stories.

We are deeply grateful to the many organizations who helped make Hayward Senior Commons possible, including Wells Fargo, Freddie Mac, the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, and the California Department of Housing & Community Development through its Accelerator and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) programs. Thank you, as well, to SmithGroup Architects and Cahill Contractors, for helping bring this vision to life.

Most of all, welcome home to the residents of Hayward Senior Commons!

Being together with partners across the state reaffirmed the importance of staying grounded in the communities we serve and the relationships that move this work forward.

🤝 Partnership Announcement 🤝

We’re proud to share that Christian Church Homes (CCH) has been selected to provide third‑party property management services for the Finnish‑American Home Association (FAHA) (https://www.fahausa.org/).

This renewed partnership reflects our shared commitment to strong stewardship, regulatory excellence, and resident‑centered communities. FAHA’s long history as a mission‑driven nonprofit—rooted in community, and care for older adults—aligns closely with CCH’s values and purpose.

As Liisa Hale, Board President of FAHA, shared:

“The mission and values of FAHA align closely with those of CCH, and we look forward to a strong collaboration in maintaining quality housing and services for our residents and community.”

We look forward to supporting FAHA’s mission and continuing our work together to ensure stable, well‑managed housing for residents throughout Sonoma County. We’re honored by the trust FAHA has placed in our team—and excited for what’s ahead.

💙 Gratitude for Our CCH Employees 💙

As we approach our 65th anniversary, we want to pause and say thank you to the incredible people who are the heart of CCH.

Our work is grounded in compassion, service, and community—and that commitment shows in how our teams support one another and care for our residents every single day. We’re proud of the ways we invest in and uplift our staff, including:
✨ An 8% employer contribution to retirement, with a 403(b) or pension option—because long‑term financial security matters, even if an employee doesn’t contribute.
✨ Our bi‑annual Day of Service, bringing teams together at our buildings to work side‑by‑side, build trust, and strengthen the communities we serve.
✨ A culture of longevity—1 in 5 CCH employees has been with us 10+ years, choosing to grow their careers here and helping create stability, connection, and shared purpose.

💬 What our employees say:
“I am so thankful to have an amazing team that makes my job easy.”
— Sheryl Stella, Controller (36 years)
“Knowing that I can help residents feel at home and supported is what motivates me every day at CCH.”
— Jamila Alkubati, Community Manager (8 years)

CCH is more than a workplace because of our people.
We are truly grateful for their dedication, heart, and commitment to our mission.

🏡 We’re excited to share a big milestone in our work to bring more affordable senior housing to Memphis! 🎉

Our Housing Development team has secured 4% Tax Credits and bond allocation for Covenant Gardens Senior Apartments, a new 103-unit community coming soon to Memphis, TN.

A huge thank you to Congressman Steve Cohen for helping secure the additional funding we needed to move this project forward. We’re officially on track to break ground in summer 2026!

Covenant Gardens will be more than a place to live — it will be a caring, supportive community where seniors can thrive with dignity and independence.

We’re especially grateful for our partnership with New Covenant In Christ COGIC, whose passion for serving the Memphis community has been essential in bringing this vision to life.

More updates coming soon as we prepare for our groundbreaking! 🏗️💙

Imagine living on $1,400 a month. For far too many seniors, this isn’t a hypothetical — it’s their reality. The average CCH resident is 76 years old and earns about $1,400 a month — and many earn even less. While their rent is deeply affordable, seniors living on such a limited income are under unprecedented pressure as grocery prices and healthcare costs continue to rise.

No one should ever have to choose between feeding themselves and staying housed. https://wearecch.org/giving-tuesday-2025/

DONATE: https://cchnc.salsalabs.org/residentcare/index.html

At , we provide safe and quality affordable housing. We also offer critical support services that help residents meet their most basic needs, including access to healthy, affordable food. Our staff partners with local grocery stores, farmers’ markets, food pantries, and food banks to ensure residents can stretch their dollars further.

This you can help CCH seniors save on costs by donating to our — a safety net for residents dealing with food insecurity. Can you help us?
Your tax-deductible gift, no matter the amount, helps seniors stretch their limited income:

- $50 pays for one week of groceries
- $200 covers groceries for the month
- $500 provides a warm holiday meal for 30 CCH residents

DONATE: https://cchnc.salsalabs.org/residentcare/index.html

As we near the holidays and the colder winter months, food insecurity becomes even more serious. Access to nutritious meals during the holiday season is about more than health, it’s about the connection and community of a shared meal.

Everyone deserves to have their bellies and hearts full. Your generosity this will help bring peace of mind and joy to the thousands of seniors who rely on us.

Warmly,
Cynthia Alvarez
Chief Executive Officer & President, CCH

PS. While restored benefits like SNAP (formerly known as food stamps) may offer short-term relief, the pressure facing seniors is far from over. Programs like SNAP don’t adequately cover basic needs — and they’re facing some of the steepest cuts in history. Your donation will make a huge impact!
