Meet our 2025 Indian H**p Symposium Teacher & Emcee:

Rex Buck III of the Wanapum Band of Priest Rapids.

The Indigenous Roots & Reparation Foundation (IRRF) is grateful for the knowledge, time and energy each teacher brought to our first Indian H**p Symposium. This is the first of its kind of gathering to take place in Wenatchee, WA. on the traditional homelands of the p’squosa (Wenatchi) Tribe. The multi-day program welcomed participants from British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and across Washington State to share our connection with Apocynum cannabinum/dogbane/Indian H**p. Indian H**p is an important fiber in our Native communities as it is used for basket weaving, cordage, dip nets and more.

lámlamt (thank you) to Rex for sharing taxwis traditional knowledge & for keeping the program running as the emcee.

Walla Walla Public Schools signs agreement with CTUIR

MISSION – Walla Walla Public Schools signed a memorandum of understanding with the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation Wednesday at the Nixyaawii Governance Center in Mission.

This agreement aims to address the educational needs of Native American students and improve their success. It also commits WWPS to educating all students about the history and culture of the CTUIR, supporting the district’s Vision 2030 strategic plan for inclusive learning environments.

“This collaboration will allow us to localize Washington State history and incorporate lessons such as Since Time Immemorial, enriching our students’ educational experience,” CTUIR Executive Director of Teaching and Learning Christy Krutulis said.

Leaders from Walla Walla Public Schools and CTUIR expressed their pride in this partnership, which has been years in the making.
