I am proud to recognize United States Marine Corps veteran Michael Perry as our September Veteran of the Month!

Michael enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1994, rising to the rank of Sergeant and serving with the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines. His service included deployments to Okinawa, Korea, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. After completing active duty, he continued serving with the New Jersey Army National Guard.

Perry then dedicated more than 21 years to law enforcement in Bergen County, serving as a Juvenile Detective and School Resource Officer, a member of the S.W.A.T. team, a Sniper/Observer, fi****ms instructor, and in numerous other specialized assignments. His service earned him both a Bergen County Valor Award and a Life Saving Award.

Even after retiring in 2021, his commitment to service continued. Today, he is with the Wallington Police Department as a Special Law Enforcement Officer, helping protect and support students and families in the Wallington school community.

For more than three decades, Michael Perry has answered the call to serve his country and his community. We are proud to honor his extraordinary record of service and recognize him our Veteran of the Month.

💙 THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING FIRST RESPONDERS NIGHT! 🚓🚒🚑

The Wallington Police Department and Borough of Wallington would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who helped make our 2026 First Responders Night such an incredible success!

A very special thank you to the Wallington Police Department Community Outreach Unit for the time, hard work, and dedication that went into organizing and coordinating this event.

We are extremely grateful to all of the local, county, state, and federal agencies that joined us and showcased their personnel, vehicles, equipment, and resources. Thank you to all of our vendors, food trucks, community organizations, volunteers, and guests who helped make the evening so special.

We would also like to recognize and thank all of our special guests who took the time to join us and celebrate our first responders and community.

A special thank you to Mayor Melissa Dabal and the Wallington Borough Council for their continued support of our Police Department, first responders, and community outreach programs.

Most importantly, THANK YOU TO OUR COMMUNITY! The incredible turnout made the night truly memorable. Seeing so many families, children, residents, and friends come together to meet our first responders and enjoy the evening is exactly what this event is all about.

To everyone who participated, attended, supported, volunteered, or helped behind the scenes — thank you for making First Responders Night 2026 a night to remember! 💙

A MESSAGE TO OUR COMMUNITY REGARDING LICENSE PLATE READERS
We want to take a moment to explain how the Wallington Police Department uses Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs).
There has been a lot of national discussion recently regarding Flock cameras and the collection and sharing of license plate data. We understand that these conversations may raise privacy concerns, and we believe it is important that our residents understand what we use here in Wallington and the safeguards that are in place.
First, the Wallington Police Department does not use Flock cameras. We utilize a different vendor for our ALPR system.
New Jersey has long maintained strict requirements governing law enforcement's use of ALPR technology. Some of the safeguards surrounding our system include:
• Before ALPR cameras are installed, approval must be obtained through the appropriate law enforcement authorities, including the New Jersey State Police.
• Officers who access ALPR data must receive required training.
• Our use of ALPR data is audited annually.
• Requests to access ALPR data must be associated with a legitimate law enforcement purpose and case number.
• Access is limited to authorized law enforcement personnel and is governed by New Jersey Attorney General guidelines.
• ALPR information cannot be accessed for civil immigration enforcement or reproductive-rights enforcement.
• Out-of-state sharing is restricted and subject to New Jersey's privacy protections.
These safeguards are important because ALPRs have also proven to be an extremely valuable public-safety tool.
Here in Wallington, ALPR technology has helped us solve and prevent burglaries, identify stolen or felony vehicles entering our community, locate missing persons and reunite them with their families, recover stolen vehicles, and in some cases prevent vehicles from being stolen in the first place.
Vehicles play a role in a significant percentage of criminal activity, which makes identifying a vehicle connected to a crime or wanted person an important investigative tool. At the same time, we recognize that technology must be used responsibly and with appropriate oversight.
Our goal is simple: use technology to help keep Wallington safe while respecting the privacy rights of the people we serve.

Because we want this post to serve as an informational resource for the community, we will not be responding to individual comments on this post.
