Many trees in Furness Park and other nearby parks are covered in English ivy and other invasive vines. These vines not only spoil the beauty of our trees, but the roots encourage moisture and pests to rot the bark. Combined with the additional weight, they can eventually kill the tree.
So some concerned citizens are organizing a volunteer effort to "Free the trees" of this ivy. We are planning our first event for March or April, targeting area parks and trails.
If interested, please reply and we'll get you added to a google group we are using to organize and discuss.
