Three of our volunteer members, Captain Michael Mathes, Firefighter/EMT Christina Mathes and Firefighter/Paramedic Josh Hahn, attended the free Public Information Officer Course this week provided by Texas Department of Emergency Management hosted at Lone Star College CyFair. Both instructors, Rachel Moreno and Carman Apple, shared their experiences and knowledge in this field to help students understand the importance and roles of the PIO. The students were given the opportunity to practice their PIO skills in individual and group activities. Thank you to TDEM for hosting another great course!

This past weekend several members from Waller VFD, Prairie View Volunteer Fire Department, and Hempstead Volunteer Fire Department trained together to receive their Flood Rescue Boat Technician certification from Rescue Training International. The water was very cold but our volunteers performed well! RTI taught us several techniques in operating our boat and how to safely rescue victims from the water. We plan to continue practicing what we were taught and to be ready for the upcoming hurricane season. A huge thank you to RTI for putting on another great class!
