⚠️ 🌡️HOT VEHICLE SAFETY ALERT ⚠️🌡️

With summer temperatures scorching, the Wallace Police Department wants to remind everyone about the critical dangers of leaving children and pets inside vehicles.

Did you know that a vehicle's temperature can rise 19 degrees in just 10 minutes? A child’s body heats up 3 to 5 times faster than an adult’s, and every heatstroke death in a vehicle is preventable.

Remember to ACT to keep your loved ones safe:

🔹 AVOID heatstroke-related injury by never leaving a child or pet alone in a car, even for a minute. Keep vehicles locked at all times to prevent children from becoming trapped.

🔹 CREATE reminders. Place a stuffed animal or memento in your child’s car seat when empty, moving it to the front seat when your child is in the back. Alternatively, place your phone, purse, or briefcase in the backseat as a visual cue.

🔹 TAKE action. If you see a child or pet alone in a car, please call 911 immediately. Our emergency personnel are trained and ready to help.

🌊 Hurricane Season is officially here, Wallace! 🌊
Now is the time to prepare, not when a storm is approaching. The Wallace Police Department encourages all residents to get ready and stay informed throughout the season. Here’s a quick checklist to help you build your hurricane kit:
✅ Water: 1 gallon per person, per day (at least a 3-day supply)
✅ Non-perishable food (and a manual can opener)
✅ Flashlights & extra batteries
✅ First-aid kit
✅ Essential medications
✅ Emergency contact list
Don't wait until the last minute!! Supplies fly off the shelves when a storm is in the forecast. (Have you ever tried to but bread and milk when a storm is approaching??) Let's make this a safe and prepared season!

On Saturday night, the Wallace Police Department hosted a multi-agency saturation patrol focused on improving public safety, deterring crime, and keeping our community safe.

The results speak for themselves: officers made 4 arrests, issued 54 total charges, seized 4 weapons, and removed an impaired driver from our roadways. These proactive enforcement efforts are designed not only to address criminal activity as it occurs, but also to prevent future crime by maintaining a visible law enforcement presence and holding offenders accountable.

Public safety is strongest when agencies work together, and Saturday night's operation demonstrated the value of that partnership. By combining resources, intelligence, and personnel, law enforcement agencies across our region were able to make a meaningful impact in a short period of time.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Kenansville Police Department, Beulaville Police Department, Duplin County Sheriff's Office, Sampson County Sheriff's Office, North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol for their partnership and commitment to protecting the citizens we serve.

We would also like to thank the dedicated telecommunicators of Duplin County 911. Their hard work, professionalism, and coordination behind the scenes are critical to the success of operations like this and to the safety of both first responders and the public every day.

The Wallace Police Department remains committed to proactive policing, regional cooperation, and working with our community to ensure Wallace remains a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.

Duplin County law enforcement agencies are working together in response to several recent acts of gun violence across our communities. Over the past 72 hours, multiple shootings involving occupied homes have occurred throughout the county.

On Saturday, May 16, at approximately 2:00 a.m., deputies with the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Beulaville area after multiple shots were fired into a residence.

On Sunday, May 17, again at approximately 2:00 a.m., deputies responded to another shooting near Warsaw where multiple shots were fired into a dwelling.

Later that same day, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the Wallace Police Department responded to a shooting into a home on North College Street.

Officers from Wallace, Warsaw, and Beulaville Police Departments, along with deputies from the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office and agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, are working diligently to identify those responsible and determine whether these incidents are connected to one another or to other recent shootings throughout the county.

We are asking for the public’s help.

This is not about snitching. It is about protecting our communities, keeping families safe in their homes, and holding violent offenders accountable. Someone in our communities knows who is responsible, and the information you provide could prevent further violence.

Due to her being a juvenile, details of the investigation are protected by law and must remain confidential.

Today, the Wallace Police Department was proud to participate in the job fair at Wallace-Rose Hill High School!

Our officers had a great time connecting with students, sharing information about careers in law enforcement, and discussing the opportunities available right here in our community. We also took time to talk about important issues impacting today’s youth, including the risks and realities of va**ng and underage alcohol use.

Investing in our students means more than just talking about careers. It means helping them make informed, healthy decisions for their future.

Thank you to Wallace-Rose Hill High School for the invitation and for allowing us to be part of such a meaningful event!

Tonight, the Wallace Police Department proudly welcomed our newest member, Officer Alex Sholar.

A Duplin County native, Alex began his journey with WPD as a cadet before completing over 800 hours of Basic Law Enforcement Training at James Sprunt Community College, graduating just last week. This evening, captain Weston Padgett presented Sholar to the Town Council, and Mayor Jason Wells administered the oath of office in the presence of Alex’s family. This was certainly a special moment marking the start of Officer Sholar’s law enforcement career.

We’re proud to have him on our team and look forward to the impact he will make in our community.
