The Department of Community Health (DCH) has lifted the advisory for toxic algae at McNary Wildlife Refuge after two consecutive weeks of sampling results were below recreational guidelines. In results received September 11, cyanotoxins were not detected.

Officials will continue to monitor toxin levels through routine water samples. Results are available through the Washington State Toxic Algae program.

DCH encourages everyone remain vigilant and watch for signs of algal blooms when visiting any lake, river, or pond.

Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC has recalled select broccoli sprouts after Montana public health officials detected Salmonella in a recent sample. This news comes after Washington public health officials announced they were investigating a Salmonella Bovismorbificans outbreak linked to the sprouts.

As of September 9th, there have been 22 cases reported in four states. All cases interviewed reported eating sprouts and 89% reported eating specifically broccoli sprouts.

The recall affects Evergreen Fresh Broccoli Sprouts with expiration dates of September 7th, 9th, 11th, 14th, and 16th.

Consumers, restaurants, and retailers are urged to not eat, sell, or serve recalled sprouts. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience severe Salmonella symptoms.

Please note: this is an active investigation update, not a recall notice. Public health officials in Washington and Montana are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella (Bovismorbificans) linked to broccoli sprouts produced by Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC of Idaho. There have been 13 cases in Washington. Of those interviewed, eight reported eating sprouts from Evergreen Sprouts LLC. There have also been three additional people infected with the same strain of Salmonella from other states (Montana and Idaho).
Complete product distribution is not available. It may have been sold through grocery stores, co-ops, and restaurants. Consumers are advised to not consume Evergreen Fresh Sprouts while the investigation continues. Contact your healthcare providers if you experience severe Salmonella symptoms.
