June 12, 2026 Women Veterans Recognition Day

06/12/2026

Today, on Women Veterans Day, we recognize and celebrate the generations of women who have answered the call to serve our nation.

Women Veterans have strengthened our armed forces through their courage, leadership, and dedication—often overcoming barriers while paving the way for those who follow. Their service extends far beyond their time in uniform, continuing through their contributions to families, communities, and the workforce.

To all women Veterans: thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your enduring impact. Today and every day, we honor you.

June 5, 2026 - A team of WWVH's distinguished Veterans (the "Resident Council") launched a fundraising campaign for construction of a pondless water fall feature, surrounded by shrubbery and small trees, situated in a large custom-designed cement raised garden bed with a natural cultured-stone exterior finish. The Veterans' purpose in this venture is to honor (for decades to come) all past, present, and future Veterans who live here at WWVH, and the dedicated staff who show up with big hearts 24/7, 365, to serve those who served.

Initially envisioned by resident Veteran Bob J, and driven forward by our Veterans every step of the way, development of this project is nearly two years in the making! Bob hopes to "enhance the beauty of this campus with a water feature that will provide a natural space for peace and reflection". Yesterday's kickoff was organized by resident Veteran David K. who did a fabulous job planning and promoting the event. The day was made extra special by the attendance of Bob Brock and his Patriot Jeep, Dixie Ferguson and Volunteers Love Serving Veterans, and a group of amazing combat Veterans who consistently show up in support of Vets in the Walla Walla valley. We hope you enjoy this video from the kickoff. 😎

If you're interested in supporting WWVH Veterans with a donation to their water feature project, please contact [email protected]. Or, you can drop off or mail a contribution to:

"There’s no place I’d rather spend my Memorial Day than with my fellow veterans. There’s a special bond and mutual respect we all share with each other that can only be felt by those who’ve served.

For those who are not aware Walla Walla Veterans Home is an amazing facility that does an incredible job caring for those who have served our country. Several I talked to today mentioned that it’s the best facility they’ve stayed in and were excited to tell me about all the fun activities and events they have the ability to do as residents." - Ashley Daschofsky

Military Spouse Appreciation Day 2026

Military spouses play a vital role in supporting service members, strengthening military families, and building strong military communities across the nation. From managing households during deployments to navigating frequent PCS moves and supporting children through constant transitions, military spouses serve their families and communities with courage, adaptability, and compassion every day.

Military spouses are also entrepreneurs, community leaders, and small business owners. One meaningful way to show appreciation for military spouses is by supporting the businesses they own and operate.

Military Spouse Appreciation Day was officially recognized in 1984 by Ronald Reagan to honor the sacrifices and contributions of military spouses in support of the nation’s defense. Today, the observance remains an important part of Military Appreciation Month and continues to highlight the invaluable role military spouses play in the military community and beyond.

Military spouses are the quiet strength behind America’s Armed Forces — providing unwavering support through deployments, relocations, long separations, and the everyday demands of military life. Throughout Military Spouse Appreciation Month, we recognize and...
