Nancy Riggle Announces Retirement After Nearly 48 Years with Valley Residential Services
Walla Walla, WA — April 13, 2026 — After nearly 48 years of service, Nancy Riggle, longtime leader of Valley Residential Services (VRS), has announced her retirement, effective December 31, 2026.
Riggle began her career in residential services at age 20 and has spent decades advancing community-based living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Under her leadership, VRS grew from a single group home model into a multifaceted organization providing Supported Living services, family and children’s programs, and housing and support for veterans.
“Nancy’s impact on this community is immeasurable,” said Board President, Linda Brown. “She built more than programs, she built a culture of dignity, independence, and respect.”
Throughout her career, Riggle remained committed to hands-on leadership, often working directly alongside staff and the individuals served. She helped pioneer tenant support services in Washington State and played a key role in developing innovative programs, including in-home family support and housing for homeless veterans.
Reflecting on her career, Riggle shared, “This has been my life. I love the people we support, and I love the staff. It’s been a love affair. But it’s time.”
Valley Residential Services is now one of the largest employers in Walla Walla County and continues to provide essential, person-centered services across the region.
As VRS looks to the future, the Executive Director position is now open and posted on the organization’s website. Individuals interested in leadership opportunities or supporting the mission are encouraged to visit www.valleyresidential.org.
Valley Residential Services (VRS) provides individualized education and support in a safe, comfortable home environment to adults with developmental disabilities; to veterans who need housing and rehabilitation opportunities; and case-specific education and support to parents and children working toward safe and stable family relationships.
Our vision is that of a compassionate community where everyone has a postive, healthy environment in which to thrive and belong.
