The Wall Fire Company No. 1 regrets to announce the passing of Ex-Chief Edward Miles.
Chief Miles dedicated more than 50 years of service to the Wall Fire Company and the residents of Wall Township. He served two consecutive terms as Fire Chief in 1988 and 1989 before being elected Fire Commissioner, a position he faithfully held from 1993 through 2023.
Beyond his service to the fire department, Ed was deeply involved throughout the Township. He served for more than two decades as President of the Wall Township Firefighters Relief Association and was also a proud member of the Wall Township Exempt Firefighters Association.
Ed's commitment to community service became a family tradition. The Miles name has long been synonymous with West Belmar. His late wife, Sue, was a dedicated member of the Wall Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and spent decades shaping young lives as a teacher at West Belmar Elementary School. Their son, Kevin, proudly served as Captain of the Wall Fire Company in 1999, while their son, Edward Jr., has faithfully served as Secretary of the Wall Fire Company for more than three decades.
Chief Miles' leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the fire service and the Wall Township community have left a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the entire Miles family during this difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as we honor the life and service of Chief Edward Miles.
Rest easy, Chief. Reunited with Sue, your watch is complete. Thank you for a lifetime of service to your department and your community. You will never be forgotten.
