Thank you to State of Iowa Treasurer Smith for taking time out of your day to meet and talk with us and presenting the check to the Fire Department. Thanks for reaching out to us, truly a honor and privilege.

🚒💰 A great day in Wall Lake!

State Treasurer Roby Smith recently visited the Wall Lake Fire Department to return $3,411 discovered through Iowa’s Great Iowa Treasure Hunt. These funds, once held for safekeeping by the State of Iowa, are now back where they belong and can help support the department’s important work serving the community.

Have you searched lately? Visit GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov to see if you have unclaimed property and claim it today!

Would like to take a minute here to explain why the Wall Lake Sirens did not go off during the severe storms last evening.

At the Fire Department, we recently removed our old radios from the trucks and base radio at the station. The Sac Communication Center did activate the sirens for Wall Lake, including all towns in the county, for the severe weather. The sirens in town are connected to our old radios though, not to the new and current radios we are using, because of this, they did not go off once they were activated. We reinstalled our old radio's base station at the fire department and tested the sirens this morning. They are working now.

Want to apologize for the sirens not going off last night during the severe weather.

Wall Lake Fire Chief, John Meister, who is also a member of the Iowa Air National Guard, Joint Operation Center, and Lake View Fire Chief Jim Garrels, hosted an Emergency Management Meeting at the Lake View Community Center. Speaker of the event was Lt. Col Johnson, Director of the Joint Operation Center, Joint Forces Headquarters, came up to talk about the process on requesting state assistance. The importance of going through the local County Emergency Manager to Homeland Security and assets State Agencies and the Iowa Guard has to offer, in case an emergency would happen in the local area. Very beneficial in learning, that if local entity resources are stretched out, what state assets can be available including the National Guard and how the process works in requesting state assistance. Want to thank Jim Garrels for lining up the Lake View Community Center for the meeting and to Community Center and City of Lake View for hosting the meeting. Local leaders, area Fire Department, EMS, Emergency Managers were in attendance.
