BATTERIES...

HOW DO YOU DISPOSE OF BATTERIES?
Are you aware of how many different types of batteries there are?
Lithium-Ion battery: Li-Ion
Nickel-Metal Hydride battery: Ni-MH
Nickel Cadmium Battery: Ni-Cd
Small Sealed Lead Acid Battery: SSLA/Pb
Primary (Single-use) battery: alkaline, Zinc-air,
Carbon-zinc, zinc-chloride, CR/SR/LR (button batteries)

Batteries should be put in a clear bag such as a produce bag or zip-seal bag. Rechargeable batteries should have the terminals taped or put in individual bags. Protect the terminals.

DO NOT PUT BATTERIES IN THE GARBAGE!

Batteries thrown in the garbage can become damaged in the truck compactor. It can start on fire in the truck. When all the garbage is dumped in the building holding the garbage, a damaged rechargeable battery can catch on fire and cause a great deal of damage. When it gets to the landfill, it can start a fire there. This can cause thousands of dollars in damages wherever it starts on fire.
