Walkerton EMS stands in solidarity with the LaPorte Police Department and the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office following the shooting involving Deputy Jon Samuelson earlier today. We are deeply mindful of the deputy’s critical condition, and we extend our unwavering support to his family, colleagues, and the entire LaPorte community.

We ask our community to join us in lifting Deputy Samuelson, his loved ones, and the entire LaPorte County law enforcement community in your hearts and prayers during this difficult time. Your support matters, and it strengthens all who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving others.

Earlier this morning an incident transpired at Franciscan Health Hospital - Michigan City Campus.

This was an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the public.

Sheriff Ronald C. Heeg has requested the assistance of the Indiana State Police to lead the investigation.

All media outlets inquiring about the matter shall contact ISP - Lowell PIO Sergeant Glen Fifield.

There are no words to describe the pain the community is experiencing right now, especially his family. Please keep his family in your prayers! Jim was an amazing man and it was an honor to work alongside him! You will be dearly missed! 💐

As many have heard by now, The Walkerton Police Department and Town of Walkerton are mourning the loss of Officer Jim Christie . Jim was a Pillar to our Police Department and valued member of our community. Jim's patrol car has been parked out in front of the Walkerton Police Department as a memorial to Jim. Please feel free to stop by, visit, and pay your respects to Jim!
