Walkerton Lincoln Fire Territory is celebrating someone incredibly special today. After 16 years of full time service, plus many more years spent volunteering long before that, we celebrate the retirement of Dawn Christie.

Dawn has been the kind of person who cares deeply about the people around her and has been a committed presence in our community. She’s been a mentor, a steady hand, and a friend to so many.

We’re grateful for every shift, every call, and every moment she gave to this community. Please help us congratulate Dawn on an amazing career and wish her all the happiness in her next chapter.

Walkerton EMS stands in solidarity with the LaPorte Police Department and the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office following the shooting involving Deputy Jon Samuelson earlier today. We are deeply mindful of the deputy’s critical condition, and we extend our unwavering support to his family, colleagues, and the entire LaPorte community.

We ask our community to join us in lifting Deputy Samuelson, his loved ones, and the entire LaPorte County law enforcement community in your hearts and prayers during this difficult time. Your support matters, and it strengthens all who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving others.

Earlier this morning an incident transpired at Franciscan Health Hospital - Michigan City Campus.

This was an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the public.

Sheriff Ronald C. Heeg has requested the assistance of the Indiana State Police to lead the investigation.

All media outlets inquiring about the matter shall contact ISP - Lowell PIO Sergeant Glen Fifield.
