POLICE ACTIVITY: SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

Just after 7:30 AM today (6/15), Walker Police responded to a residence on Bristol Ave NW. Original dispatch information was that a male had shot someone inside the home and was still inside.

Officers arrived on scene quickly to locate two subjects, a 64-year-old male & 70-year-old female, suffering from gunshot wounds. A third subject, a 68-year-old male, later determined to be the shooter, was found deceased in the garage area from a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

Both victims were treated on scene by Walker Fire & LIFE EMS before being transported to a local hospital. The female victim is currently undergoing emergency surgery. The male victim was alert at the hospital and able to speak with detectives. He is listed in stable condition.

Initial investigation shows this shooting stemmed from a family disagreement within the home. All parties involved are related. There is no outstanding danger to the general public. Further investigation shows this was likely a murder-suicide attempt.

This remains an active investigation. Anyone who may have seen or heard something related to this shooting, and did not have information collected on scene, can call the Walker Police Tip Line at 616-791-6788 reference incident 26-5923.

Summer weather is here. Thieves will be more active. We've already gotten a surge of vehicles rummaged through in the neighborhoods around Standale.

Thieves return to areas where they find a path of least resistance, meaning, unlocked vehicles. Most larceny from vehicles occur when vehicles are left unlocked and desired items or keys are left inside, within plain view.

Together we can prevent crimes of opportunity. We will continue to do our part, investigating incidents that can be followed up on. We need you to remember to LOCK IT OR LOSE IT.

Make it a personal habit. Remind a friend or neighbor. Share this post in your neighborhood social media page. Let's keep Walker OFF thieves' radar!

-Park in well lit, video surveilled areas, when you can.
-Remove keys, valuables, & fi****ms and bring them inside.
-Windows up, doors locked, EVERY TIME a vehicle is unattended.

What’s that? A bird? A plane?

Nope.

But helicopters will be out in our area checking high voltage lines over the next week. 🚁

FYI:

ITC will be conducting aerial patrols of the high-voltage transmission structures, lines and equipment throughout Kent County from June 12-17, weather permitting.

The helicopter patrols are conducted to provide an overall status of the overhead transmission system that is operated by ITC’s Michigan operating entities, ITCTransmission and Michigan Electric Transmission Company, LLC (METC).

Crews check for damaged or worn equipment and vegetation hazards. The inspection flights are often conducted at low altitudes to allow accurate visual inspection of equipment for lightning damage, wear or other potential problems.

This is normal procedure, so there is no cause for alarm if a low-flying helicopter is sighted near transmission lines.
