West Side Project Construction Activity Summary

6/11/2026 Completed Work:

7th Street and Elm Avenue:
- Kuechle Underground Inc. has closed the roads for underground utility trenching – contact the Contractor Superintendent if you have specific access questions.
- They have completed installation of sanitary sewer, watermain, and storm sewer from Michigan up to the south end of 7th Street.
- They are also installing the boring under Hwy 34 for sanitary sewer crossing.
- Operations are based on keeping access to the Fire Hall as work is performed on both streets adjacent to the facility.

Upcoming Work (Remainder of June):

7th Street and Elm Avenue:
- Advancing the trenching operations for watermain and sanitary sewer piping on Elm Avenue from 7th Street to Hwy 34.
- Street reconstruction activities will progress up the hill on 7th Street and also Elm Avenue as grading and installation of concrete curbing is performed in June.

Lake May Road:
- Kuechle Underground Inc. plans to begin work on the Lake May Road segment around mid-June. Operations will begin with road closures, setting up the temporary water supply system, and the trenching of sewer and water utilities.
- Road closure signs will be posted in this area – contact the Contractor Superintendent if you have specific access questions.
- Further information will be made available as work begins in this segment. Utility trenching operations may take around 4-5 weeks and conclude around the middle of July.

Lake May Drive:
- The segment of Lake May Drive from 10th Street to Lake May Road is scheduled to begin around mid-July.
- Further information will be made available as we approach work in this segment.

Michigan Avenue West:
- The segments of Michigan Avenue East and West from 10th Street are scheduled to begin around the beginning of August.
- Further information will be made available as we approach work in this segment.

Hwy 371:
- The segment of watermain installation on the south side of Why 371 from Tianna Drive to 500’ westerly is scheduled to begin around the end of July.
- Further information will be made available as soon as we approach work in this segment.

Garden Street:
- The segment of Garden Street from Walker Bay Blvd. to Hwy 371 is scheduled to begin around the end of August.
- Further information will be made available as we approach work in this segment.

CITY OF WALKER
PUBLIC NOTICE

Between the morning of June 4 and the early hours of June 5, Blackhawk and Chinook helicopters from the 34th Combat Aviation Brigade of the Minnesota National Guard will be conducting flight exercises from Camp Ripley to the Walker Municipal Airport as part of their regularly scheduled annual training.

West Side Project Construction Activity Summary

5/28/2026 Completed Work:

Crews continued sewer installation work moving up 7th Street. Water main installation also continued, with crews working to extend the system through the upper section of 7th Street.

Upcoming Work (First Part of June):

Curb installation is scheduled to begin early next week in the Phase One area on 7th Street between Super One and Green Scene. Backfilling will follow, and sidewalk installation in this area is expected to begin next Friday.

Crews will also begin working on the next phase of the project, including excavation on Elm Avenue and Lake May Road on either side of their intersections on Highway 34 beginning on MONDAY, JUNE 1. During this work, there will be no access to Highway 34 from Elm Avenue or the northern section of Lake May Road.

Residents in the area will still be able to access their properties by using Lake May Drive.
