🌲🔥 Training for the Next Wildfire Starts Long Before the Smoke Shows Up! 🔥🌲

Today, Central Coast Fire had the pleasure of working alongside the staff and students of Angell Job Corps and our partners from the U.S. Forest Service for an afternoon focused on wildland firefighting training and education.

Our crews arrived at approximately 12:45 PM and began training at 1:00 PM. Central Coast Fire brought a Command Unit, Engine 72, and Brush 72, staffed with a Chief Officer, Captain, two Engineers, and three Firefighters. Throughout the afternoon, we shared our equipment, discussed wildland firefighting operations, answered questions, and participated in training scenarios designed to simulate real-world wildfire incidents.

The 22 Angell Job Corps students were divided into two teams of 11 and rotated through multiple skill stations around campus. Students learned about wildfire behavior, firefighting equipment, fireline safety, communications, and the teamwork required when multiple agencies come together to combat a wildfire.

As wildfire season approaches, opportunities like this are invaluable. Training together before an emergency occurs helps build relationships, improve coordination, and ensure a safer and more effective response when large-scale incidents happen.
The exercises concluded at 3:00 PM, wrapping up an outstanding day of learning, teamwork, and collaboration.

A huge thank you to the students and staff of Angell Job Corps and our partners with the U.S. Forest Service for their participation and dedication. Working in unison today makes all of us better prepared for tomorrow's challenges.

We are pretty sure you’ve heard of arm day 💪 and leg day 🦵… but have you heard of BAY DAY? 🚒🧽

When you see all the apparatus lined up out on the apron in front of the station, it usually means crews are hard at work cleaning, organizing, scrubbing floors, and making sure the apparatus bays are in top shape.

A clean bay means safer operations, better organization, and equipment ready to roll when the tones drop. Plus… firefighters secretly love an excuse to play with hoses and pressure washers. 😎

So if you drive by and see the station looking like a fire truck car show, don’t worry — it’s just Bay Day at the station! 🚒✨

🔥🇺🇸 Memorial Day, Honoring the Fallen 🇺🇸🔥

Today, Central Coast Fire & Rescue pauses to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. Their sacrifice is the reason our communities live in freedom, and we hold their memory with deep gratitude.

While our crews remain on duty and ready to respond, our administrative offices will be closed today in observance of Memorial Day.

We encourage our community to take a moment to reflect, remember, and honor those who never made it home.
We remember. We are grateful. We stand united.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 16th, at 3:15am, crews from Central Coast Fire & Rescue were dispatched to a reported house fire within our district, with automatic aid response from Yachats Rural Fire Protection District.

When Engine 72 arrived on scene, firefighters were met with a single-story manufactured home fully engulfed in flames. Crews immediately began an aggressive fire attack while additional water tenders were requested from neighboring agencies due to the lack of hydrants in the area. Support quickly went enroute from Seal Rock Rural Fire Protection District, Newport Fire Department, Toledo Fire Department, East Lincoln Fire & Rescue, and Alsea Fire District. Central Coast Fire Tender 73 and Tender 74 also responded, and a water supply operation was established using our float pump in the Alsea River which allowed us to free up several agencies so they could remain available for other emergencies.

Despite the tireless efforts of all responding crews, the homeowner was tragically found inside the residence. Our hearts are heavy as we extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones affected by this heartbreaking loss. Incidents like these are a solemn reminder that behind every emergency call is a person, a family, and a lifetime of memories.

We would also like to thank the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office - Oregon and the Oregon State Fire Marshal for conducting the investigation, as well as Pacific West Ambulance for providing standby coverage while crews remained committed to the incident scene.

To all of our mutual aid partners who answered the call in the middle of the night without hesitation — thank you. Your support, professionalism, and dedication to serving our communities together never goes unnoticed.

Please keep everyone impacted by this tragedy in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. ❤️🚒

❤️🔥 Happy Mother’s Day from Central Coast Fire & Rescue! 🔥❤️

Today we celebrate the moms who hold our community together, those who raised first responders, those who are first responders, and those who support our crews from home with endless strength, patience, and love.

To the moms who pack lunches after sleepless nights, who understand when duty calls at the worst possible moment, who cheer on our volunteers, who show up to events, who lead with compassion, and who teach the next generation what service truly looks like, we see you, we appreciate you, and we are grateful for you.

And to the mothers within our fire family, our firefighters, EMTs, volunteers, admin staff, and support crews, thank you for balancing two of the toughest jobs out there: being a mom and serving your community. Your dedication inspires us every day.

Wishing all the incredible moms across our district a day filled with love, rest, and the recognition you deserve.
From our fire family to yours, Happy Mother’s Day. ❤️

🔥 Wildfire Season is Coming – Are You Ready? 🔥

As we look ahead to the next few months, wildfire potential across the country is rising—and by August, all of Oregon, including the coast, is expected to face extreme wildfire risk.
The good news? There’s a LOT we can do right now to protect our homes, families, and community.

🏡 It starts with DEFENSIBLE SPACE

Defensible space is the buffer you create between your home and surrounding vegetation—and it can significantly increase your home’s chance of surviving a wildfire.
Think of your property in zones:

🔥 0–5 feet (Immediate Zone)
Remove leaves, needles, and debris from roofs & gutters
Keep this area as non-combustible as possible (rock, gravel, etc.)
Move firewood, mulch, and anything flammable away from structures

🌿 5–30 feet (Intermediate Zone)
Trim trees and shrubs away from your home
Mow grass and remove dead vegetation
Space plants to prevent fire from spreading

🌲 30–100+ feet (Extended Zone)
Reduce brush and ladder fuels
Space trees and clear excess vegetation
Keep access routes open for firefighters

⚠️ Be Aware of Hazards Around You
Overgrown vegetation
Dry grass and debris buildup
Firewood stacked against structures
Trees or branches touching your home

Small hazards can quickly become big problems under extreme conditions.

👨‍🚒 Why it Matters

Defensible space doesn’t just protect your home—it also gives firefighters a safer, more effective area to defend your property when seconds count.

💪 Preparedness is a Community Effort

Wildfire doesn’t stop at property lines. The more we all do, the safer our entire district becomes.

👉 Take time this week to walk your property. Identify risks. Make a plan. Start small—but start now.

Preparation today can make all the difference tomorrow.

🚒🔥 Big news for our Fire District and the Community we serve! 🔥🚒

We’re excited to announce that our district has once again been awarded the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Wildfire Season Staffing Grant! This funding allows us to bring on additional firefighters and increase coverage during the most critical months of wildfire season, when every second truly matters.

What does this mean, right here at home?
✅ Faster response times
✅ More firefighters available when fires break out
✅ Greater capacity to keep small fires from becoming big disasters
✅ Stronger support not just for wildfires, but for medical calls and other life‑safety emergencies, too

For a district like ours, this grant is a game changer. It helps ensure we’re better staffed, better prepared, and better able to protect our neighbors, homes, and natural resources during a busy summer.

And while this funding directly strengthens our local response, it also plays a crucial role statewide. As the Oregon State Fire Marshal has shared, these grants help stop fires early, preventing them from growing into large, costly incidents that threaten communities across Oregon. When local districts are strong, Oregon is safer.

We’re proud to be part of the 180 agencies across the state working together to keep wildfire impacts low and communities protected. A huge thank-you to the Oregon State Fire Marshal and the Oregon Legislature for continuing to invest in the fire service, and in rural districts like ours.

Your safety is our mission, and this support helps us be ready when it matters most. 💪🌲🚒
