Waldoboro Police Department

Waldoboro Police Department The Waldoboro Police Department provides 24-hour police services to all businesses and residents. And much, much more!

The Waldoboro Police Department provides 24-hour police services to the businesses and residents of the Town of Waldoboro. These services are provided with a staff which consists of a Police Chief, a Sergeant, four full-time officers, a School Resource Officer, several reserve officers, and a public safety secretary. We have four police cruisers to patrol our streets and respond to calls and one p

olice ATV used during special events and to patrol local trails. Although our primary function is to maintain law and order and to protect the lives and property of the citizens of our community, we are often seen performing other types of community services. Some of these services include:

-The shellfish management program.

-Business checks at night to ensure a shop owner has not forgotten to lock up.

-Working with our youth in and around our schools.

-Checking on the elderly.

-Delivering emergency messages when a person does not have a telephone.

-Participating in committee meetings regarding community improvement.

***SPECIAL OLYMPICS OF MAINE*** Annual Maine Law Enforcement Torch Run (for Special Olympics). Coming through town again this year...TOMORROW!! Tuesday June 2nd sometime after noon the Torch will be handed over to the Waldoboro Police Department at the Nobleboro town line on Atlantic Highway. It will travel north to the Knox County line to continue on it's journey.

Many of us have participated in the run over the years and some continue to do so by beating their feet on the pavement. The culmination of this event is the Special Olympic Summer Games that are held in Orono, but the Chief said that he is only running as far as Warren.

Along the way there are plenty of opportunities to help support these guys and girls out spreading awareness: honk, yell encouragement, make a sign, clap, cheer, offer cold water. If you are feeling really energetic then you certainly can join right in...just please keep the pace to those of us who only do this once a year.

THANK YOU to all who participate and especially to those who VOLUNTEER their time throughout the year to make this event happen and run smoothly. Personally, this will mark my 26th anniversary of participation and I look forward to being involved with it every year....from the comfort of my support vehicle (AC, water, and snacks readily available).

It has been brought to our attention that the Memorial Day Parade for tomorrow has been cancelled. The weather report is for a whole lot of wet stuff falling from the sky. Please continue to remember the day for what it is and for those who made a big sacrifice to protect our way of living.

RAILROAD Track Repair

"All Aboard" for the new information on the upcoming road closure/detour on Winslows Mills Road. This will be in the area of Box 1000, at the intersections of North Nobleboro Road and Cross Street. State DOT has already placed some signage along the road in anticipation of this undertaking.

Everything will be going "Off The Rails" starting on Tuesday the 26th. It is only expected to last for 3 days. In the meantime this is NOT a personal challenge to those wanting to live out the adventures of Bo and Luke that they saw in the '80s. One of the pictures below is of a professional driver and the other is of a Local trying to get to the Big Apple before it closes...you decide!

This will obviously lead to more traffic on some of the less traveled roads. In turn, dispatch will have an increase of vehicle complaints from neighborhood citizens. Before we loose our "Train of Thought" we want to remind all motorist to be aware of and obey speed zones...ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Major MCI event in Searsmont today. Multiple RESPONDERS critically injured. Too many Emergency Services involved to name. All departments working hard for hours to get the job done, some still on scene. Additional agencies that did not go to the scene back-filled at empty stations. Ripple affect all the way to Lincoln County. Waldoboro Emergency Medical Service transporting patients and covering stations. During all of this PD call volume continued and even had to investigate and assist with a Lock Down Incident at Medomak Valley Middle School/High School complex.

People often ask why the local Police Department responds to EMS calls. Well, this article from the EMS Crew is exactly why!! It is all about us working for that common goal and having success stories like this one.

Often the PD is already out patrolling and is able to get to a scene first. There are a lot of tasks that our Officers know to accomplish prior to EMS arrival. All of the cruisers also have an AED in them. Every year there is training for CPR and Stop the Bleed.

Our department also has some members who are cross trained. Amongst the staff there is a: Retired EMT/Fire Fighter, Active Paramedic/Fire Fighter, Active Fire Fighter, and an Active Nurse. May you be lucky enough to have your worst day on their shifts!

Thank you for the visit today Sir. We plan on seeing you around town for many more years to come!

"Sign Up For A CPR Class Today"

Earlier this year on a Sunday afternoon the gentlemen in this photo (who is not wearing a uniform) collapsed with sudden cardiac arrest. A close friend witnessed this and immediately started CPR, another person on the scene called 911.

Supervisor/Paramedic Andrew Santheson arrived on the scene within two minutes of the initial call and took over CPR from the bystander, another member of the department arrived shortly after Andrew with a town issued vehicle carrying a Lifepak 15 cardiac monitor in it. The patient was found in a rhythm that required defibrillation and was immediately defibrillated, this was within seven minutes of the initial call. The car with the monitor in it arrived a few minutes before the ambulance.

On arrival of the ambulance with Paramedic Aurel Hensel, Paramedic Steve Barley and AEMT Jason Earl on it CPR was continued and further advanced life-saving treatments were administered. The individual regained a stable heart rhythm and was found to be having an active heart attack. He was transported to a local hospital and later transported for higher level of care where he received treatment.

Today- he walked in with the same person that initially started CPR on him. He was able to thank us for helping him. This does not happen often, as a matter of fact out of 350,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests per year 90 percent do not survive.

We take this opportunity to not only praise our team for their work but to recognize the importance of bystander CPR and early defibrillation as vital links in the chain of survival. If it had not been for the bystander CPR this person received and the early recognition of the cardiac arrest that led to early defibrillation that led to a return of spontaneous circulation that led to a rapid transport that led to a higher level of care that led to this patient walking into our station to say "Thank you" this likely would not have been the case.

You- yes you, can be the difference between life or death, learn CPR, learn how to use an AED. Save a life.

Not everybody who was on duty that day was here today to be in the photo (we suspect they'd prefer that anyway) but a shoutout to Andrew, Aurel, Steve, Jason and Justin (the short guy in the shellfish warden uniform on the far right in this photo) for their efforts that day.

We are lucky to be able to post this (with permission from the patient)

Stay safe out there.

People outside of Public Safety have no idea how much all agencies work together to attain the same goal...Keep The Public Safe. It is something that we do seamlessly. There is no hesitation to offer out, "What can I do to help you?" This goes the same for the extended families.

Today our "Family" was shortened by one. We will continue to move forward and serve the communities with a smile as we mourn the loss of a "Brother." We will remember him through the stories that we will share with each other. To his family at home, "You are not alone, we are here for you."

"Hugs 'n' kisses at bedtime tonight"

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is heartbroken to share that Game Warden Pilot Joshua Tibbetts died this morning in a plane crash in Avon, ME.

Game Warden Pilot Tibbetts served the people of Maine as a Maine Game Warden for 18 years, including the last three years as a pilot for Maine Warden Service. In that role, his specialized aviation work supported search and rescue, law enforcement, fisheries and wildlife conservation, and public safety across the state.

This is an incredibly difficult loss for his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Maine Warden Service. We ask the public to keep his loved ones, his fellow Game Wardens, and all those affected by this tragedy in their thoughts in the days ahead.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. The Department will cooperate fully with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

We are grateful for the emergency personnel who responded to the scene and for the support already being shown to the Maine Warden Service family.

***UPDATE*** Thanks for all the phone calls we got. This vehicle was not involved with any missing tools from the area. This is still an ongoing investigation.***

Please take a goooood looooooooooong look at this building. NO WHERE does it say, "Home Depot, Lowes, RZR, or Bear Hill Hardware" on the side of this building!! But for some reason there has been more traffic here recently than on the Jersey Turnpike.

Housing has been at a premium here in the Mid-Coast for the last few years. We are now having these opportunities being built right here in town. The problem is that local contractors are finding it harder and harder to build when they show up to the job site and there are NO tools to be found. Locks only seem to keep the "Honest People" out of where they don't belong.

This is the best picture we could get of a recent visitor. They may not be part of "The Sticky Bandits" but, we would really like to talk to them about a couple of things. A vehicle like this stands out for many reasons:
Age - This thing is no Spring Chicken. Pretty sure it was bought new back in the '70s....I'll check in with my Aunt because she used to have a brand new one and she's 83.
Color - The paint looks original and probably even Maaco couldn't match this premier shade.
Accessories - Is it possible that those are official tennis balls on that Thule or Yakima roof rack???
Legal Beagle - There does not appear to be a proper license plate attached to the back of this vehicle (NO, the big issue here is NOT a moving violation).

Please reach out to our local dispatch center (Lincoln County...207-832-4500) if you would like to talk to someone about where this car sleeps at night. By the looks of the time stamp it likes to stay up late. This may have been the first stop of the evening. Definitely past my bedtime...I'm a day shifter. Ofc. Joslyn is eager to wrap this up before his 3rd Red Bull wears off!

There are all kinds of "Hip, Happening" things going on in the world today. Why would this Monday be any different??? It is always a special day for something...National Renewal Day, National Day of Reason, National Candied Orange Peel Day, and the list can just get crazier from there!

During the shift inventory this morning we were not able to find our "cooler than yours" Lightsabers, so I guess we will not be participating in May The Fourth Be With You. BUT we did inspect our ABC fire extinguishers...how fitting on International Firefighters' Day. Every year police officers across the State of Maine have to re-certify in their attempts to really be a true hero. There is a rather burly man with an extremely rugged mustache who tells us to remember PASS...Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep. By the end of the class we are motivated to drive big trucks and run into burning buildings. Well, not really, but we will at least race them to the scene to try and get in on some of the action!

Even found our version of a safety helmet. Sometimes we wear it just because of the way that the shift is going, but other days it is for others who think that they are in a "Thrash Metal" band. Their tone is usually waaaaayyyyyy off and there is A LOT of colorful language.

If you want to volunteer and be involved then swing into the station and see the Fire Chief on a Wednesday evening. The crew would love to meet you and point you in the right direction.
