Fire Prevention Week 2026 Charge Into Fire Safety

Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere these days. Phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, scooters, and other everyday devices all rely on them.

They're incredibly useful, but they need to be used and charged properly.

A few simple habits can help reduce the risk of a battery related fire:

🔋 Use the charger designed for your device.
⚡ Follow the manufacturer's charging instructions.
👀 Don't charge damaged or swollen batteries.
🛏️ Avoid charging devices under your pillow, on your bed, or somewhere they can't dissipate heat.
🏠 Charge devices where you can see and hear them, rather than leaving them charging unattended.
🚨 If a battery begins to overheat, swell, smoke, or smell unusual, stop using it and move away from the device.

Fire prevention isn't just about what we do when the fire starts. It's about taking steps to prevent that fire from happening in the first place. 🚒🔥

Sometimes it's not about adding something completely new to the fire department. It's about making sure the equipment we rely on continues to be there when we need it.

Our new RDC is replacing our previous unit, giving our firefighters a newer and more reliable piece of equipment to use on emergency scenes.

This replacement was made possible through the generous support of Dlapa Construction and the Waldo Lions.

We are incredibly fortunate to have local businesses and organizations that recognize the importance of supporting their volunteer fire department. Their generosity allows us to continue replacing aging equipment and making sure our members have the tools they need to safely serve our community.

🚒 Annual Hose & Ladder Testing

Another important piece of our annual maintenance is in the books!

Today, we completed our annual hose and ladder testing with Fire Catt.

Our hose and ladders are some of the most important tools we carry, and they need to be ready to perform when called upon. Annual testing helps us identify any issues, verify the equipment is functioning properly, and ensure our firefighters can rely on it when it matters most.

So why do we bring in FireCatt to perform the testing?

Hose and ladder testing is a specialized process, and FireCatt does this work for fire departments across the country. Their crew comes to us with the specialized equipment and technology needed to accurately test our hose and ladders, while also documenting the results for our department. This allows us to have trained technicians handle the testing while our members can focus on keeping the rest of our equipment and apparatus ready for service.

It's one of those things that happens behind the scenes, but it's a big part of keeping our department prepared.

A big thank you to FireCatt for coming out and getting everything tested and ready for another year of service!

A lot of the work that goes into being prepared happens long before the tones drop. 🚒🔥

This morning, members of the Waldo Fire Department had the honor of assisting the Town of Sheboygan Fire Department with their annual Tunnel To Towers 5k Run/Walk in remembrance of September 11, 2001.

It was a great event that brought the community together to honor the lives lost and remember the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice that day.

We’re proud to stand alongside our neighboring departments and support events like this that keep their memory and sacrifice alive.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸🚒

🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Today, we remember the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the countless families, friends, and communities forever changed by that day.

We especially remember the 343 firefighters and 60 police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to the attacks.
25 years later, we continue to honor their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to serving others.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

That time of year again.

School is back in session in the Random Lake School District, which means the big yellow buses are back on the road too. A quick reminder for all of us behind the wheel: slow down, put the phone down, and pay attention around school buses and bus stops. Kids don’t always do what we expect them to do, and they can be in the roadway before you know it.

When those red lights start flashing and the stop sign comes out, your destination can wait. Let’s get everyone to school and back home safely. Have a great school year from all of us at the Silver Creek Fire Department!
