It is a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ex-Chief Ken Kruehne. Ken, even through his illnesses, was one of the most dedicated members we ever had. He held nearly every position in the company and served as chief of the department in the early 90's.

A full bio will be released with the details of the memorial service when they are completed.

Patrick Campbell is a former Lieutenant of our company and a was very active Walden Volunteer Firefighters until relocating to Vails Gate. Any and all help would be appreciated. We have been in contact with him since the incident and we're sure this is just the first step in the recovery.

This week Ex-Chief Lynn & Captain McNamee traveled to the New York State Academy of Fire Science for the annual Technical Rescue Conference. Over the four days they reviewed and practiced a variety of skills including Rope Rescue and Swift Water Rescue (air temperatures at the river were below freezing!)

For those unaware, the Walden Fire Department provides not only traditional fire fighting duties but a variety of rescue services including auto extrication, light rope rescue, ice/cold water rescue, and flood/swift water rescue. None of these skills require you to be an interior firefighter, so if you might be interested in rescue but not too keen on the idea of burning buildings SEND US A MESSAGE! We would love to give you a tour and chat about the possibilities.

Additionally both members took part the states first ever Rope Technician Challenge and with over a dozen participants Chief Lynn took 1st Place and Captain McNamee took 2nd, CONGRATULATIONS & KEEP ON TRAINING!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and members of the Wallington & Jersey City NJ Fire Departments as they grieve the line of duty death of Wallington Ex-Chief & Jersey City Captain Gregory Barnas. Chief Barnas was fatally injured at an early morning fire today, he left behind a family including two sons who were fighting the fire with him this morning.


While they may be many miles and a state away, the officers and members of the Wallington NJ FD held a close bond with members of the Walden FD. Many Walden residents may remember Wallington Firefighters as they 'marched' in some non-traditional uniforms & outfits in many of the parades held here in the village through the 90's and early 2000's.

Incident Description: Fire Captain Barnas died of injuries sustained when he fell through the roof of a burning commercial structure (restaurant) while, according to reports, he was working to ventilate the building. Thank you to all the members who assisted this morning at the second alarm fire on Colmen Rd., an aggressive interior attacked held the fire to a small area with only smoke damage to the rest of the house.

And as always thanks to our brothers from Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department, Wallkill Hook, Ladder and Hose Co., Maybrook FD, & Coldenham FD for the assistance at the scene. And to the Orange Lake and Pine Bush FD's for standing by and handling a car fire while we were tied up.
