Eddie Wayne Geouge of Lompoc, California, was by a North Vietnamese mortar round while serving with the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division in December 1968.

John "Jake" Parette enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 2010 and served for the next four years. As a member of the 25th Infantry Division, Parette was stationed in Alaska and deployed to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn. He was injured by enemy fire while serving in Afghanistan in August 2011.

Along with his Purple Heart, SPC Parette was awarded numerous medals and commendations during his service, including Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 2 campaign stars, the Army Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and more.

Today we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the terrorist attacks on and , 25 years ago. While we honor those who perished on that fateful day, we also mourn the brave Global War on Terrorism veterans who have been killed-in-action in the years since. During each of our Patriot Project Missions, our heroes have gathered at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum to pay their respects to all those lost. God Bless America.

Along with his Purple Heart, SP4 Gerald Galant received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Air Medal.

Married for 54 years to his high school sweetheart, SP4 Galant is the father of two daughters. He is active in VFW Post 7035, where he served as surgeon, and recently received the 2025 Community Service Award.

On November 16, 1969, while out on patrol, a fellow soldier stepped on a land mine and was killed instantly. Debris from the explosion struck Gerald Galant in the arm and upper thigh, severing the popliteal artery in his right leg and shattering his knee.
