Early this morning at approximately 0118 hours, Coldenham units were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Winchell Drive in the Town of Newburgh section of our district. Coldenham units arrived on scene to find a structure fire that had been knocked down by the resident using a fire extinguisher. Firefighters conducted an investigation of the residence to ensure there was no fire extension. Units operating on scene included Car 3, Engine 204, Tanker 203, Tower Ladder 205, Tanker 202, 36-12, Town of Newburgh Police and New York State Police. 36-101 and 36-104 from the Orange County Fire Investigation Division also responded to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. All units were back in service by 0410 hours.

This incident is a perfect reminder of how important it is to have working fire extinguishers readily available in your home. Quick action by the resident helped prevent what could have been a much more serious fire.

Good afternoon community. We would like to clear the air on an issue that seems to be circulating regarding gofund me and two recent structure fires in the area. Last Friday a structure fire occurred on Riverview street in the village of Walden that unfortunately left the residents with nothing but the clothes on their backs. A gofund me was set up to assist with their needs. Another gofund me was set up for a separate family on Hatter lane in the Walden section of Coldenham that also experienced a structure fire on Wednesday May 6th. That family also lost their home due to damage and unsafe conditions. We have seen some posts stating the second fire was a scam and it never happened. We can ensure you there was a fire at that location last Wednesday that we responded to and was completely unrelated to the fire in the village of Walden. Please keep both impacted families in your prayers as they navigate these difficult times and support them if you have the means to do so. We hope this will help clarify some of the confusion going on.

Car 1, Car 2, Car 3, and Engine 204 operated at this second alarm fire in the Village of Walden Yesterday. Our thoughts are with the residents during this difficult time.

On 5/8/26 at 10:49am we were called to a porch fire at 15 Riverview St. While responding 911 updated with a report of possible entrapment. Car 1 arrived on scene at 10:51 and immediately requested a second alarm. After speaking with a resident it was confirmed that everyone was out of the house. That resident was alerted to the fire when he saw a neighbor running down his driveway. Units on scene attempted to knock down the fire and advance hose lines inside the residence. Unfortunately, while trying to advance into the structure, the building started showing signs of potential collapse. Units were pulled out of the building before the roof collapsed and then the 1 side of the house also collapsed. Exterior operations continued throughout the day until all units were clear of the fire at 7:26 pm.

There are so many people to thank on a large incident like this. On scene along with us we had the Montgomery Fire Department, Coldenham Fire Department, City of Newburgh Fire Department, Maybrook Fire Department, Pine Bush Fire Department, Vails Gate Fire Department, Orange Lake Fire Department, Washingtonville Fire Department 36-12, 36-6, 36-1, the Orange County Fire Investigation Team, Walden Police Department, Orange County Sheriff's Office, State Police, Walden DPW, Walden Building Department, Town of Montgomery EMS, Wallkill Volunteer Ambulance Corp., Pine Bush Ambulance, Greenville Ambulance, Town of Newburgh EMS, and Town of Wallkill EMS, and Orange County EMS Coordinators (EMS-1 and EMS-2). We would also like to thank the Walden Elementary School who had staff help with the scene and also dropped off some food for everyone.

Fortunately, all residents were able to escape the house with no injuries. There were three firefighters that were transported to the hospital with non life threatening situations and one additional firefighter that sustained minor injuries that was treated on scene and continued with their efforts to contain the blaze.

We are saddened to see the total destruction of the home and wish all the best to the family in their recovery. There has been a GoFundMe set up to assist them if you wish to help out.

Good morning all. Today is the annual Valley Central High School DWI awareness drill. Don’t be alarmed if you see numerous emergency vehicles in front of the school this afternoon as multiple police, EMS, and Fire Units will be participating in this event. This drill serves as a training exercise for emergency services and more importantly provides students getting ready to attend their senior prom with a real world educational lesson on the consequences of operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
