Summer Tax bills are mailed out on 06-30-2026. Summer Taxes and 1% Administration fee are payable starting on 07-01-2026. 1% interest per month or portion of month is added after 09-14-2026. A 3% penalty is added on 02-16-2027. To avoid penalties and interest, make your payment on or before 09-14-2026. Unpaid taxes will be turned over to the Gogebic County Treasurer on 03-02-2027.

Winter Tax bills are mailed out on 11-30-2026 and due 02-15-2027. A 3% penalty is added on 02-16-2027. To avoid this penalty, make your payment on or before 02-15-2027. Unpaid taxes will be turned over to the Gogebic County Treasurer on 03-02-2027.

All payments that I receive after March 1, 2027, will be returned to you and you will need to contact the Gogebic County Treasurer.

I will be holding office hours on Monday, September 14, 2026.

9:00am – 1:00pm at the Wakefield Township Hall at 414 North County Road 519 in Wakefield

1:30pm – 5:00pm at my home office at 250 Old US 2 in Wakefield

It is helpful if you include your phone number with your payment so that I can reach you if I have any questions about your payment. Due to the recent fire, the transfer station will be closed to the public until further notice.

Residential garbage collection and dumpster pickup services will continue as scheduled and will not be affected by the closure.

PLEASE INCLUDE PRICE FOR EACH MOWING, ALONG WITH TYPE OF EQUIPMENT THAT WILL BE USED. THERE WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 8 MOWINGS DURING THE SUMMER AND MUST BE APPROVED BY SUPERVISOR. MUST BE INSURED AND BE ABLE TO PROVIDE PROOF OF INSURANCE WITH THE TOWNSHIP LISTED AS ADDITIONALLY INSURED.

Wakefield Township Tax Information Update

Summer Taxes and 1% Administration fee are payable 07-01-2025. 1% interest per month or portion of month is added after 09-15-2025. A 3% penalty is added after 02-17-2026. Unpaid taxes are turned over to the Gogebic County Treasurer on 03-03-2026.

Many residents of the Township are experiencing power outages. This is one option that is close to home if you need to charge your devices or warm up, although travel is not advised right now due to road conditions and down power lines and trees. Xcel Energy power restoration is after Thanksgiving. Please reach out to the Sheriff’s Department if you have an emergency.

❄️ WEATHER & ELECTRIC UPDATE #5 – OUTAGE, ROADS & WARMING CENTER

The City of Wakefield is currently experiencing a significant power outage near the intersection of Ahola Road south of US-2, along with several isolated outages throughout the community.

Our Electric Department crew has been working since early this morning to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. At this time, the anticipated restoration timeframe is approximately 12–16 hours, depending on weather and access conditions.

Crews will continue working for another few hours before taking a necessary rest break. Full restoration efforts will resume early tomorrow morning.

🚗 Road Conditions

Road conditions continue to deteriorate, and although our snow-removal team remains out, City streets will remain dangerous for the rest of the evening.

👉 Please avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.

🔥 Warming Center Open

The Wakefield Municipal Building is open from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM for anyone needing a place to warm up or charge devices.
If there is a demonstrated need, the building will remain open later.
