We love this quote from one of our colleagues that speaks to the collaboration that is so crucial to the population we serve: "“I hope the future is bigger than I can dream,” she says. “Because the most beautiful things have come from ideas I could never have imagined on my own.” Check out this article featuring Dr. Rebecca Shlafer to learn more:

A passionate University of Minnesota advocate is working to improve long-term health and well-being for incarcerated mothers and their children.

Did you hear the news? Chapter 2911 has been fully approved by the Court of Administrative Hearings. The timeline should be updated this week at: https://mn.gov/doc/about/rulemaking/

Our 14th Annual CHD Conference will have two rulemaking participants giving an update on the 2911 changes and how they will affect our medical care given to our jail population. Register today: https://www.mnsheriffs.org/jail-nurses-chd

We'd like to share our newest nurse in the spotlight with you, Laurel from Cass County, MN. Laurel shares this "I have been a nurse for over 11 years, with experience in medical-surgical nursing, mental and behavioral health, home health, and correctional nursing. For the past 4.5 years, I have worked at the Cass County Detention Center. Correctional nursing was never a specialty I thought I would pursue, but it has become a career that I truly enjoy. Every day brings something different, and I love being part of such an amazing team here at Cass County.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, family, and friends. You can usually find me at the lake, taking long walks with my dog, or planning my next travel adventure. I feel fortunate to have a career I love and a wonderful support system to share life with outside of work." Shout out to Laurel! We appreciate you!! 🥳👏🩺

Holly Lind, one of our colleagues from Arrowhead Juvenile Center in Duluth, recently received an award for "Individual Excellence". Holly "takes care of everything for the kids from intake to discharge and everything in between, including medications, physical therapy, doctor appointments, injuries, and talking with their parents is only a snapshot of what her day looks like. It shows that she really cares for them, even down to their dirty ears and fingernails that need clipping. She goes above and beyond her nursing duties. She facilitates yoga for the girl’s group, and she will do special projects like cookie decorating for Valentine’s Day.
Quotes:
“She is a really sweet person; she wants the kids to feel heard and invests in getting to know them on a deep level.”
“Extremely positive.”
“We can hear her humming in the hallways with a smile on her face.”
“I have never heard her complain.”
“She does well with dealing with stress and curve balls.”
This individual has great communication with staff. She will help with well-being checks and steps in to help groups and responds to behavioral codes. She will do anything she can to make her co-workers’ day easier.
Special projects and committees: She trains all staff on medication passing and is AJC’S First Aid and CPR Instructor.
Words to describe Holly are: sunshine, kind, dedicated, passionate, and happy."
Holly also shares: "I started at AJC in 2023
Previously at Urgent Care and inpatient Child/Adolescent Behavioral Health at Miller Dwan.
I love working with this population and really love the flexibility and benefits of no longer working in a hospital setting.
My husband and I have 2 rescue dogs and love to travel!"
We are happy to have you as a colleague in correctional health! Congratulations, Holly!!🥳👏🎉
