A trip to Home Depot is more than an errand when you are training a future service dog! 🐾🧡

Several of our Hawaiʻi Fi Do dogs recently practiced their public access skills together, working on calm behavior, focus, navigating busy aisles, and ignoring all the sights, sounds, smells, and people around them.

Real world outings like these help prepare our dogs to confidently support their future partners wherever life takes them. 🐕‍🦺

Mahalo to Home Depot for giving our dogs another great environment to learn and grow!

If my first few months on the job have taught me anything, it’s that raising and placing world-class assistance dogs is the ultimate team sport.

Summit would like everyone to know that dinner was delicious… but she is pretty sure there was supposed to be a second dinner. 🐾😂

Nothing says Labrador quite like carrying your empty bowl around just in case someone gets the hint.

Nice try, Summit. 💛

Adventure is part of the training! 🐾🌿

Ulu hit the trails with trainer Lydia for some fresh air, exercise, and real world experience. Hikes are a great opportunity to practice focus, confidence, and good manners while navigating new sights, sounds, smells, and terrain.

Every adventure is another step toward becoming a confident service dog. 💙🐕‍🦺

🎃 Training with a spooky twist! 👻🐕‍🦺

This week, our Hawaiʻi Fi Do service dogs headed to Home Depot to practice working around some seriously distracting Halloween decorations.

Moving displays, unexpected sounds, unfamiliar objects, and plenty of spooky surprises make for a great real world training environment. Experiences like these help our dogs build confidence, stay focused, and learn to calmly navigate distractions alongside their future partners.

Every new environment is another step toward becoming a confident, dependable service dog. 💙🐾

🐾⚓ Ulu reporting for duty!

Ulu had the opportunity to visit Naval Health Clinic Hawaiʻi and spend some time with the Sailors and staff who care for our military community every day.

Experiences like this are valuable for a future service dog. New people, new environments, uniforms, medical settings, and unfamiliar sights and sounds all help build the confidence and adaptability our dogs will need to support their future partners.

Of course, Ulu was more than happy to provide a few smiles along the way. 💙🐶

Mahalo to the Sailors and staff at Naval Health Clinic Hawaiʻi for welcoming Ulu and supporting his training!

Ulu’s first ballet! 🩰🐾

Yesterday, Ulu headed to Palikū Theatre for Kailua Dance Theatre’s Of Which We Are Made. From settling in among the audience to taking in all the sights, sounds, movement, and applause, experiences like these are an important part of preparing a future service dog for wherever life may take them. Palikū Theatre

And based on that face, we think Ulu is officially a fan of the arts. 💛
