The monthly test of the all-hazard Statewide Outdoor Warning Siren System is scheduled for Thursday , October 1, 2026, at 11:45 a.m. The siren test will be coordinated with a test of the Live Audio Broadcast segment of the Emergency Alert System. During this monthly test, all Statewide Outdoor Warning Sirens will sound a one-minute Attention Alert Signal (steady tone).

A test of the Live Audio Broadcast segment of the Emergency Alert System is conducted at roughly the same time as the monthly siren sounding, in cooperation with the Hawai‘i broadcast industry. There will be no exercise or drill accompanying the test.

The all-hazard Outdoor Siren Warning System for Public Safety is one part of the Hawai‘i Statewide Alert and Warning System used to notify the public during emergencies. If you hear this siren tone in circumstances other than a test, follow emergency information and instructions provided by official government channels. These may be in the form of a local radio or television station broadcast and/or a cellular Wireless Emergency Alert. Wireless Emergency Alerts deliver sound-and-text warnings to compatible mobile cellular phones.

The Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alert notifications are sent via the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, the nation’s alert and warning infrastructure, managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The public may contact Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) to report siren operation issues through the main phone number 808-270-7285 or through https://www.mauisirens.com .

MEMA also encourages the public to sign up for MEMA Alerts and download the Genasys Protect app. More information can be found on MEMA’s website https://www.mauicounty.gov/MEMA .

Today is the monthly test of the Hawaii All-Hazard Outdoor Warning Siren System at 11:45 AM. You can participate by clicking this link Report Monthly Siren Test or going to www.mauisirens.com, scroll down a little bit to the County of Maui Siren Testing Reporting section and click the blue "Report Siren Results" button to complete the survey of what you heard during the siren test. You can enter the address on the map search of where you were when the test occurred or if you prefer the survey can use the GPS from your mobile device to show where you were located in relation to the nearest siren at the time you heard the siren sound. Your personal information is not collected, only the GPS information. You can visit www.mauisirens.com for more information on the siren warning system. Lahaina Civic Center emergency shelter site closed at 4 p.m. today

HECO reports service restoration nearly complete in West Maui

With Hawaiian Electric Co. (HECO) reporting that service has been restored to nearly all West Maui customers, the County of Maui closed its emergency shelter at Lahaina Civic Center Gym at 4 p.m. today.

Charging stations and Starlink satellite internet connectivity had been available at the site for residents affected by power outages. The emergency shelter was opened on Saturday, Sept. 26, after an evacuation order was issued for Olowalu Village due to a fast-moving brush fire nearby.

Mandatory evacuation orders were lifted for Olowalu Village at 5:45 a.m. today, after the brush fire that burned more than 100 acres was reported to be 95% contained, according to the Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). Residents are advised to use caution in the area, as hazards, including smoke impacts, may still be present. Fire crews remain on scene and continue working in the area.

On Monday afternoon, HECO reported that crews had restored service to nearly all 10,000 customers in West Maui after completing inspections and repairs to the transmission line serving the area. The weather-related outage had been reported Sunday morning while Maui County was under a High Wind Warning issued by the National Weather Service as Hurricane Nolo passed south of the Hawaiian Islands.
