WAHOOOOOOO!! Our last in-person informational meeting for our 2027 NAM European Tour is Wednesday, May 13 at Wahoo High School. The meeting begins at 6:30 pm. We are looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Saturday was the 9th annual Opera Omaha "Poetry and Music Project Concert," where 14 selected poems written and submitted by NE and IA K-12 students were set to music and performed. WHS 9th grade student Emery Lausterer was one of the selected students, and got to hear her poem "Piercing through the Dark" sung for the first time! Congratulations, Emery!

Saunders County Lost Pets - Pet Rescue or SCLP Pet Rescue - This evening, Monday, May 11th there will be a fireworks show at the completion of the Wahoo outdoor POPS Concert. As we know, pets can be startled and affected by the loud noises and we want our community pet owners to be able to provide the support their pet need. Concert begins at 7:00 this evening with fireworks to begin shortly after dark.

Please join us tomorrow evening, Monday, May 11th as we celebrate the success of our music program with our final concert of the school year. This outdoor event, in front of the Middle School, begins 5:30 p.m. with our fundraiser dinner, which includes solo and small group performances from this year's District Music Contest, and is followed by the POPS concert beginning at 7:00 p.m. The evening's activities culminate with a fireworks show🎆, as we celebrate the completion of another successful music year! Don't forget to bring your chair or blanket...We can't wait to see you tomorrow evening!

Wahoo High School bandmaster, Mr. Jason Smith, has been recognized as a Quarterfinalist for the 2027 Music Educator Award presented by the Recording Academy GRAMMYS and GRAMMY Museum! 202 music teachers out of over 2100 national nominations were selected as quarterfinalists. Thank you to Ms. Lara Celesky, former WHS graduate, for nominating Mr. Smith for this amazing award!

The Music Educator Award™ was established to recognize current educators (kindergarten through college and public and private schools) who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools. Mr. Smith DEFINITELY meets these criteria!

Semifinalists will be notified in September. We're rooting for you!

We are proud to announce that the WHS production of "Anastasia" has been honored with two awards from Omaha Performing Arts' Nebraska Theater Academy!

Congratulations to our stage crew for their Backstage Excellence award, and Tatum Nelson for his Outstanding Performance in a Lead Role for his performance as Dmitry!

Our directors and Tatum will officially accept these awards at the NTA Showcase performance at the Orpheum Theatre on May 31st, and Wahoo will also be represented by Tatum, Hadyn Feilmeier, and Maclin Krivanek through their onstage performances in the Lead and Showcase Ensembles! Anyone who wishes to watch may buy tickets for the Showcase through ticketomaha.com!

A little recap on a very successful contest season! Between the middle school and high school bands and choirs, every large ensemble received a Superior Rating! The middle school performed at the Malcolm Middle School Contest, the high school performed at District Music Contest, and we have several solos and small groups perform at the Bishop Neumann Contest. Congrats to all involve and bravo for some incredible music making! We are proud of you!

We wanted to share great opportunity this summer. Drum Corps International is coming back to Nebraska! This Summer on July 1st, there will be a DCI Marching Band Competition at Burke High School. Tickets are one sale and it will be an impressive show! Check it out at the link below!

We would like to celebrate some of our Wahoo Music Alumni and their performances after high school. Connor Herndon recently performed with the Northeast Community College Jazz Band including some improvised solos. Lara Celesky performed Jupiter by Holst with Lincoln Civic Orchestra, Sydney Holdsworth performed in the first ever performance of the Nebraska Saxophone Project, and Dani Baker performed in the Midland Jazz Choir. This is just snippet of recent performances by our alumni. A friendly reminder that music participation doesn't stop at graduation. Music is a lifelong activity! Well done and Congrats!
