Aloha WMS Families,

There is NO school tomorrow, August 18th.

The impacts our school is experiencing from the storm are fluid but the Hawaii Department of Education is committed to respond accordingly as they arise. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this challenging circumstance. We will continue to provide our school community with updates as we receive them from the Hawaii Department of Education.

Shout out to our awesome custodial staff, cafe staff, administrators, office supervisor, and other school-level leaders who were on campus today early this morning. Our head of security was on campus to check the campus though no students were reporting today. Fallen branches were removed, fridges and freezers were cleared out. Rooms and student spaces were checked in preparation for a safe return for our students. The dumpsters were filled before 8:30 this morning. We know teachers have been reworking pacing guides.

Following assessments of school campuses and surrounding community conditions, the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education (HIDOE) will keep public schools and offices closed statewide on Monday, Aug. 17.

The additional closure will allow time to complete campus safety assessments, restore utilities where necessary and address storm-related impacts.

The Department will continue working with county and state partners and will provide updates regarding Tuesday's operations as additional information becomes available.

Previously announced extended closures on Hawai‘i Island for Nā‘ālehu Elementary and Ka‘ū High & Pāhala Elementary School remain in effect.

You belong here at Wheeler Middle School! We are so happy to have our students back on campus. Today we are distributing our school shirt. Please have your child(ren) wear it on Fridays, school events and Field Trips. It is a great way to show appreciation for those who made it possible for the students to receive a shirt. 800 shirts is a lot of shirts!
