We are currently accepting Precinct Official sign-ups for the November General Election, and I want to make something very clear.
Our job is to uphold the law. Period.
Less than a week ago, I advertised that we were accepting new Precinct Officials. Since then, 8 people have signed up.
6 are registered Republicans.
2 are registered Independents.
0 are registered Democrats.
Why does that matter to us?
Because we currently staff, at minimum, 93 Precinct Officials across 31 precincts in Wagoner County. For November we are looking to staff 140+. We are required to meet bipartisan staffing requirements, which means we need both Republican and Democrat officials available to work our precincts.
We meet that requirement.
Barely.
Right now, we have just enough trained Democrat officials to place one in each precinct. But Election Day doesn’t happen in a perfect world. People get sick. Emergencies happen. Work schedules change. Officials who planned to work sometimes can’t.
That’s why we need reserves.
My goal is to train 25 additional Precinct Officials before November. We are already almost halfway there, and I am incredibly thankful for every person who has stepped forward.
But not one of those new sign-ups helps us build our reserve of Democrat officials.
When we advertise that we specifically need officials of a certain political affiliation, it is not because we favor that party.
It is because we are trying to uphold the law and protect the bipartisan process.
Unfortunately, the last time we explained this need, the comments became so volatile that I had people DROP OUT of training classes.
That should bother all of us.
Your neighbor. Your friend. Your child’s Sunday school teacher. Your volunteer firefighter. Your reserve officer. The person checking your groceries.
They are PEOPLE first.
They are members of this community who are willing to get up before daylight, work an incredibly long Election Day, follow the law, protect your ballot, and make sure YOU get to exercise your right to vote.
We only care about your political affiliation when it is necessary to meet staffing requirements.
Your political opinions matter most in the place they are supposed to matter:
On your ballot.
So please, let’s be kind to the people willing to serve.
And if you are a registered Democrat, I am specifically asking you to consider helping us build our reserve.
PLEASE come to training.
We need you.
Fair elections don’t just happen. They require people willing to show up and do the work. 🇺🇸
