Bring 2 VALID forms of ID.
Physicals will not be scheduled until drug test is complete.

Yankton Agency will NOT be conducting drug testing today 03/13/2026.

Drug testing for the 2026 fire season will begin Monday March 16th and end Friday March 27th for all non-students interested in applying for a seasonal wildland firefighter position.

2024 Fire Season recruitment has started for Yankton Agency.
Please stop in at the Fire Management Office if you have any questions or wish to sign up.
Drug test are REQUIRED for ALL applicants.
Drug testing will be conducted January 22 - February 16, 2024 for all applicants.
Drug testing will be conducted May 27-31, 2024 for students ONLY.
We encourage anyone who shows an interest in wildland fire to apply!

BIA is recruiting several positions to perform a variety of jobs in the natural resource fields such as natural resources management, minerals and energy, civil engineering, geography, agricultural engineering, agricultural economics, animal husbandry, animal science, horticulture, rangeland management, soil conservation or science, environmental sciences, fisheries and wildlife biology, forestry and other related STEM fields. During the internships, students will be given hands on training and experience to apply their degree with real life practices in use today by tribes.

Non-Competitive Conversions / Job Placement Services:

Student graduates who successfully complete the Pathways Internship Program and meet all position eligibility requirements may be noncompetitively converted to a term or career conditional position within the BIA. We provide support for job placement opportunities with a Tribe or Tribal enterprise.

Refer to the job vacancy announcement on USAJOBS for the specific education and eligibility qualification requirements.

Key Eligibility Requirements
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
(www.sss.gov)
• Show they are eligible for Indian Preference by using Form BIA
- 4432 (Exp Date: 03/31/2021)
• Must be enrolled full-time or accepted for enrollment full-time
in an accredited institution
• Good academic standing (cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher)
• Seeking a bachelor's degree related to program/position
• Complete the 640-hour service requirement
• Must be suitable for Federal employment and pass a Security
investigation
• Must sign a Pathways Program Internship Program Participant
