๐ŸŒŠ Know Your Options. Know the Signs.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water that can quickly carry even the strongest swimmers away from shore. If caught in a rip current, stay calm, don't fight the current, and swim parallel to the shoreline until you are out of it.

๐ŸŠ Swim near a lifeguard whenever possible.
๐ŸŒŠ Never swim alone.
๐Ÿ›Ÿ Know how to recognize a rip current before entering the water.

A few moments of awareness can prevent a tragedy. Stay safe and enjoy Suffolk County's beaches this summer.

Mutual Aid Structure Fire - Riverhead

At approximately 1:30 this afternoon, Wading River Fire Department (WRFD) was requested as mutual aid to the Riverhead Fire Department (RFD) for a structure fire at Home Depot, 1550 Old Country Rd, Riverhead. WRFD Ladder 4 (6-3-4) responded and was directed by Riverhead Command (Chief 6-2-30) to report to the rear of the store from the east. The RFD volunteers were actively fighting fire within two delivery trailers that contained material including lithium batteries. The RFD members were able to prevent the fire from entering the structure. WRFD Ladder 4 arrived and was immediately tasked with providing an elevated water master stream to help extinguish the fire. WRFD Firefighters worked with the RFD Firefighters to hook up to RFD engine 14 (6-2-14) and helped to extinguish the fire. WRFD members also used their thermal imaging cameras (TiC) to help identify โ€œhot spotsโ€ after all the visual flames were knocked down. Members worked on scene for about 2 hours.
