Congratulations to Robert Toelle on his recent achievement in becoming water quality certified through the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program!

โ€œThe public is always looking to farmers when it comes to being good stewards of the land,โ€ Toelle said. โ€œSo, this certification process has been a good effort to put forward to showcase that weโ€™re doing the right things for the environment.โ€

As planting season is right around the corner, our office is assisting East Otter Tail SWCD with preparations for the start the irrigation scheduling program for the year. This program is offered in Becker, Hubbard, Otter Tail, Todd, and Wadena counties to help producers manage their irrigation pivots and soil moisture status. By providing good moisture data, farmers are better able to apply and conserve water which helps protect both water quantity and water quality by limiting the amount of nitrogen fertilizers are leached into the groundwater. Interested in being a part of this program? Contact our office at 218-632-4201 to learn more!

Congratulations to Maier Farms, LLC, who became Water Quality Certified back in October of 2025 through the MN Ag Water Quality Certification Program! Andy, his wife, Stephanie, and their family practice conservation tillage, cover crops, and have planted field windbreaks to prevent the wind erosion that is prevalent within the region.

โ€œI look at the certification as another milestone of our farmโ€™s history,โ€ Maier explained. โ€œThe process helps improve your operation and knowledge as a farmer.โ€

This week SWCDs from across the country are in Washington, D.C. for the NACD Spring Fly-In, talking with Senators, Representatives, and their staff about how important Americaโ€™s voluntary, locally led conservation delivery system is for producers and the healthy soil and water we all depend on! Strong funding from Congress for conservation programs is crucial for the work of conservation districts and the preservation of our countryโ€™s natural resources.

Manager Darren Newville is there representing Wadena and East Otter Tail SWCDs, and Minnesota.
