Waconia Public Schools

Waconia Public Schools A public school district serving 4,000 students and families in early childhood through 12th grade. Bonifacius, and New Germany.

The Waconia Public Schools, also known as Independent School District 110, provides outstanding education to students who reside in Waconia, Minnetrista, St. We are a welcoming school community, located in Carver and Hennepin Counties, about 20 miles west of the Highway 494 loop around Minneapolis. Waconia Community Education is also a part of the Waconia Public Schools, and includes Early Childho

od Family Education (ECFE), Kids Company (school aged day care), and Wildcat Preschool, along with hundreds of opportunities for recreation and education for all district residents. Approximately 4,000 students are learning in our schools every day, with class sizes lower than many metro area school districts. The size of our relatively small district, schools, and classes allows us to focus on students as individuals and meet their academic, emotional, artistic, health, and athletic needs. Students receive education in three elementary schools (Kindergarten through grade 5), one middle school (grades 6-8) and one high school (grades 9-12).

It was a great night at Wildcat Stadium as the football team opened the 2026 season with a 35-14 victory over Northfield. There was great fan support, a fantastic halftime performance by the Community Education Fall Dance Team, and we had an opportunity to recognize our youth football teams.

Senior quarterback Karsen Herman threw three touchdown passes, one each to Grant Zieman, Alex Kirsch, and Mitchell Speers. Zieman and Jacob Ess each added a rushing touchdown in the win.

The team will be back on its home field next week when it hosts Apple Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11.

The fall athletic season is in full swing and the first home football game is tomorrow, Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 p.m.

Below are links to purchase tickets and view the livestream if you are unable to attend in person. This is also a good time to share some reminders with families to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience at our home athletic events.

All students in eight grade or younger are expected to purchase a ticket for admission to home athletic events and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is responsible for their supervision throughout the event.

These expectations are in place for safety and supervision. We want our younger students to come out, have fun, and support our teams, while also ensuring they are appropriately supervised throughout the event.

We encourage all of our fans to be supportive, energetic, and respectful at every event.

✅ Cheer loudly and positively for our teams.

✅ Put your energy into supporting Waconia athletes.

✅ Respect officials, coaches, opponents, and fellow fans.

✅ Be Loud. Be Proud. Be Respectful.

We ask our families to help our students understand that they represent themselves, their families, and our Waconia community when attending school events. Lead by example, cheer loud for our teams, and help make Waconia events a great experience for everyone!

We kicked off the 2026–27 school year this morning at Waconia High School with plenty of energy, laughter, and Wildcat pride at our annual All-Staff Welcome Back Kickoff Event! Members of the Waconia football team were on hand to enthusiastically welcome staff into the auditorium, setting the tone for a fun morning. School Board Chair Kelly Amott, eighth-grade students Avery Deringer and Willa David, and Superintendent Gersich then officially kicked things off with opening remarks.

The morning also gave us the opportunity to recognize our 2026 Essence Award winners and this year’s Accomplished Waconia Educators—two groups who represent the dedication, passion and excellence that make our district shine. We also made time for a little friendly competition as students and staff battled it out in a student vs. staff trivia showdown!

Now, the countdown is on! We’re excited, energized, and ready to welcome our students back to school beginning next week. Let’s make it a great year, Wildcats!

Junior Zayda Butler (left) and senior Mia Tiller (right) were sworn in as the new student representatives on the School Board for the 2026-27 school year at last night's regular meeting.

Student school board representatives serve as advisors to the school board and administration, offering insights into the development and assessment of policies and regulations within our school system by attending school board business meetings and work sessions. Though they do not have voting rights, they act as a vital link between the student body and the school board, also gaining valuable governmental experience through their participation.

We are excited to introduce Bound, our new event and scheduling platform for Waconia High School athletics and activities. Bound replaces the Rschool website (www.metrowestconference.org) and will provide students, families, and fans with one convenient place to access the information they need throughout the season.

To access our Bound website, visit www.gobound.com/mn/schools/waconia

Through Bound, you will be able to find schedules, rosters, scores, standings, ticketing information, notifications, and more—all through one website and mobile app. Our goal is to make following Waconia activities easier and more convenient by bringing this information together in one place.

Bound has also been adopted by all of our conference schools and many schools across Minnesota, creating a more consistent experience for families and fans as they follow activities throughout the state. We are excited to make this transition and believe Bound will be a valuable resource for our students, families, coaches, and community.

Students and families may also find it helpful to download the Bound app on their mobile devices.
