📞 Heads up, Waconia!

Phones across the City will be temporarily down tomorrow morning (Tuesday, May 12) as we transition to a new phone system.

The current estimated outage window is approximately 30 minutes sometime between 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. We expect to have a more specific timeframe tomorrow morning and will share updates as they become available.

If you are unable to get through during that time, please wait about 30 minutes and try calling again, as phone lines should be restored shortly after the transition is complete.

We appreciate your patience as we make this upgrade to better serve our community!

🚧 Weeks 2 & 3 Downtown Construction Update 🚧

Here’s what’s been happening and what’s coming next in Stage 1 (1st Street from Olive to Spruce):
This week, crews completed roadway removals in the Stage 1 area and began sanitary sewer work between Olive Street and Pine Street. In the coming week, crews will start watermain installation as work continues to move forward in Stage 1.

Xcel Energy crews were also on site this week removing and relocating poles along 1st and 2nd Street to prepare for upcoming construction activities.

đź’§ During utility connection work, temporary water shutoffs may be needed for some properties as crews connect to the existing water system. Impacted properties will be notified in advance. Crews will continue working to accommodate regular property access as much as possible during the workday.

📌 Project Update:
Removal of Pine Street will now take place during Stage 2 (instead of Stage 3).

Residents may be aware that the City recently completed a land swap with Ridgeview for the 801 Highway 284 site (formerly the UFC location). As part of planning for the future of this property, the City is developing a small area plan and has recently completed a market study to explore the best potential uses for the site.

We invite you to join us on Tuesday, June 2 from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at City Hall for an open house. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the site, view potential concepts, and share your feedback on what you’d like to see there in the future.

🚨 E-Bike Safety & Enforcement in Waconia 🚨

E-bikes are becoming more popular across our community—and while they’re a great way to get around, we’re seeing an increase in unsafe and illegal use on our streets, sidewalks, and trails.

To keep everyone safe, the Carver County Sheriff’s Office is actively enforcing Minnesota’s e-bike laws in Waconia. Riders who violate these laws will receive citations. This can include citations to both the children and parents of e-bike users.

👉 Know the basics:
E-Bike Classes (max 750 watts):
• Class 1: Pedal-assist only, up to 20 mph
• Class 2: Throttle + pedal assist, up to 20 mph
• Class 3: Pedal-assist only, up to 28 mph (throttle limited to 20 mph)

Motorized bicycles (no pedals):
• Up to 30 mph
• Require a driver’s license or permit
• Helmets required if under 18

Key Rules:
âś” Riders must be 15+ years old
âś” Follow all traffic laws (signals, speed limits, etc.)
âś” No modifying bikes to exceed speed limits
âś” Yield to pedestrians and ride courteously
âś” Helmets not yet required, but highly recommended

⚠️ Violations can result in fines and the confiscation of bikes until an authorized, legal rider is available to pick up.

Let’s work together to keep Waconia safe for everyone—whether you’re walking, biking, or driving.
