🐾 Our community is showing some serious love for our seniors’ four-legged companions this month!

We’re incredibly grateful to have TWO pet food drives benefiting Meals on Wheels Waco in September!

❤️ Woodway Family Center is continuing its annual tradition of collecting pet food for our clients’ furry family members.

🐶 Camp Bow Wow Waco is also rallying its community this month to help keep those bowls filled!

For many of the older adults we serve, a beloved dog or cat is a constant companion -- offering comfort, friendship and plenty of unconditional love. Our Pet Program helps make sure our seniors don’t have to worry about feeding those important members of their families.

Two organizations. Two pet food drives. One very grateful Meals on Wheels Waco -- and a whole lot of happy tails. 🐾❤️

Meet Ms. Callie, one of our longtime senior center participants and, at 97, one of the oldest!

We’ve had the joy of knowing Callie for many years, and while she may have slowed down a little, one thing certainly hasn’t changed: her sparkle. From her perfectly coordinated outfits and caps to plenty of bling, Callie has always brought her own special style -- and plenty of personality -- to the Sul Ross senior group.

Last month, she celebrated her 97th birthday, and when asked how she was doing, Callie had this to say: “I’m  trying to get to heaven, but I have to deal with the devil first.” 😂

During National Senior Center Month, we’re celebrating people like Callie who remind us what our centers are really about. Yes, there are meals, activities and services -- but there’s also friendship, laughter, belonging, and a community where older adults can keep being wonderfully, completely themselves.

Happy 97th birthday, Ms. Callie. Keep shining! ✨💖

As we close out National Make a Will Month, we want to remember Rodney and Nan Brown and the legacy of generosity they built together.

Rodney believed in living “a life that contributes more than it takes.” He and Nan carried that belief into the way they cared for their family, their church, and their community.

Through the Rodney and Nan Brown Family Fund, administered by Waco Foundation, they made plans for that generosity to continue. Meals on Wheels Waco is blessed to be among the organizations their legacy continues to support.

Their story is a beautiful reminder that the things we care about during our lifetime can continue making a difference long after we are gone. A thoughtfully planned legacy can keep caring for your community for generations.

🐾 HELP US NAME OUR PET PROGRAM!

For years, Meals on Wheels Waco has helped make sure the beloved dogs and cats of our homebound seniors have food in their bowls, too.

The program has plenty of heart. It has plenty of paws. What it doesn’t have is a name! So we’re turning to you.

🐶🐱 What should we call our Pet Program? Share your best name ideas in the comments! Cute, clever, meaningful -- we want to hear them all. We’ll gather our favorites and choose a winner.

When we care for our seniors, sometimes that means caring for the four-legged family waiting beside them, too. 🐾❤️

William Travis “Bill” Clarke Jr. spent much of his life in Waco -- serving his country during World War II and later his community as a pharmacist.

When Bill planned his estate, he also planned how his generosity would continue after his lifetime. His gifts benefited several causes and projects in the community he called home, including the Doris Miller Memorial, Camp John Marc and Meals on Wheels Waco.

Through the William Travis Clarke Jr. Endowment Fund for Meals on Wheels Waco, Bill created a gift designed to keep giving -- providing support for older neighbors today and for generations to come.

We are blessed to be among the recipients of Bill’s thoughtful legacy and grateful that he chose to make Meals on Wheels Waco part of his lasting investment in our community.

During National Make-a-Will Month, his story reminds us that a legacy doesn’t happen by accident. It can be planned with purpose.

Today is National Senior Citizens Day. 💛

We can celebrate older adults with kind words and recognition. But perhaps one of the most meaningful things we can do is something even simpler:

LISTEN.

Listen to their experiences.
Listen to what they need.
Listen to what they want for their communities.
And make sure their voices are part of the decisions that affect their lives.

Because older adults don't just deserve a seat at the table. Their voices belong at the table.
