Area Agency on Aging of the Heart of Texas Area Agencies on Aging are intended to be the nexus for Aging Network services in their Planning & Service Areas (PSAs), of which there are 28 in Texas.

We proudly assist older adults, disabled individuals, and their caregivers in the six-county region known as the Heart of Texas: Bosque, Falls, Freestone, Hill, Limestone, and McLennan counties. BACKGROUND
The Area Agency on Aging of the Heart of Texas (AAAHOT) is administered by the Heart of Texas Council of Governments under the oversight of the Texas Health and Human Services Committee's Office of Area Agencies on Aging (OAAA). Established by the Older Americans Act in 1965, the AAA system is part of the federal/state/ local network of senior services referred to collectively as the Aging Network. AAAHOT's PSA covers the entirety of Bosque, Falls, Freestone, Hill, Limestone, and McLennan counties. ORGANIZATIONAL OBJECTIVES
AAAHOT is an organization committed to improving the quality of life for those in greatest need by:
Providing advocacy, assistance, and access to services & supports via the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive, integrated continuum of health and human services, to empower our consumers and their families to maintain their independence, freedom, and dignity. We will support this effort of developing and expanding home & community-based services while maintaining the highest standards and quality of service throughout our six-county area with the complete integration of health and human service delivery systems through advocacy, coordination, collaboration, and advanced technology. We will achieve these goals by expanding partnerships with both public & private organizations and through the vigorous pursuit of additional resources to address unmet needs. PROGRAMS

It’s that time of year again for the Bell County Committee for People for Disabilities Annual Rusty Awards! Rusty Morales was the son of Judy Morales, our Committee Treasurer. Each year we celebrate him with the annual Rusty Awards. Rusty acquired his disability from a motorcycle accident. His new disability did not stop him. He along with Judy strived to make changes in the City of Temple to include better accessibility downtown and the creation of the Temple Mayor’s Committee, today known as the Bell County Committee for People with Disabilities. The Rusty Awards are a celebration of individuals with disabilities doing great things in and for our Bell County Community and people serving the needs of individuals with disabilities in Bell County. Telecommunicators: Hone Your Training Skills this Fall

Much depends on the skills of telecommunications trainers. The responses of law enforcement or emergency services are only as good as the telecommunications officer who can expertly monitor radio or emergency communications, with professionalism and speed. Poor training of these integral positions can have catastrophic consequences.

That is why HOTCOG is encouraging telecommunications officers involved in training new recruits to register today at the link below for a three-day course in late October worth 24 TCORE credits. This class is limited to 20 students, so don’t wait to sign up.

The course will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1514 S. New Road, Waco, TX 7671. Lana Gudgel will instruct the class, Contact her with all questions at [email protected] with any questions.

TWIN BRIDGES | Beginning Sunday night, August 23, at 7 p.m., TxDOT and its contractor will begin switching all SH 6 Twin Bridges traffic onto the northbound bridge. By Saturday, August 29, traffic will be shifted to a two-way, two-lane configuration that will remain in place through fall 2027. This traffic pattern will allow crews to begin reconstruction of the new southbound bridge. Additionally, the southbound off-ramp to Midway Park and the northbound on-ramp past Fish Pond Road will be closed concurrently with the switch. Crews will temporarily close the north to south U-turn at the south end of the bridge the night of August 20 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day to move equipment in preparation for the switch.

The traffic switch is part of TxDOT’s $114 million project to reconstruct and widen the SH 6 bridges over Lake Waco.
