The major attraction to the city is the National Eagle Center. The parks, marinas and historic charm make Wabasha a great place to spend a day, a week or a lifetime. About the Wabasha Area
The landscape of the

Wabasha area is part of a large area in southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa, and southwest Wisconsin which is sometimes referred to as the “Driftless Area,” (not being covered by any of the “drift” material left behind by glaciers in much of the Midwest) or Paleozoic Plateau” because bedrock here is Paleozoic in age and has been cut into by erosion. The dramatic topography of the Paleozoic Plateau, which in Wabasha runs from about 700 feet above sea level in the city to 1200 feet just west and south, these rock formations have provided the resources of sand, rock road, rip-rap, and building stone for the community. Wabasha as a community traces its history to the 1830’s when Augustin Rocque established a fur trade post. The community grew up around his post and the City was platted in 1854 and incorporated in 1858. Beginning with the first European explorations of the upper Mississippi in the 17th century, many visitors have extolled the attractions of this area.

‼️TRAFFIC ALERT‼️

Highway 60 motorists crossing the Mississippi River in Wabasha will encounter lane closures and brief traffic delays starting June 3rd through June 4th for the inspection of the Highway 60 Wabasha bridge, the Michael Duane Clickner Memorial Bridge. During this time, traffic will be reduced to a single lane and flaggers will alternate traffic flow and motorists should expect traffic delays during the daytime inspection process.

This annual inspection evaluates safety and monitors the effects of traffic, weather and other elements on the structure. If weather affects the inspection work, crews will return the week of June 15th to complete the work.

Crews will use a snooper truck. This is used for bridge inspections that have high vertical heights or span areas that make it difficult to inspect it underneath. A snooper truck is a specialty vehicle that has a multi-jointed arm with a basket attached at the end to hold the bridge inspectors. The equipment allows the inspection team to maneuver under the bridge, while the truck is parked on the bridge deck

⚠️Important safety reminders when travelling in work zones⚠️

Motorists should always be prepared to encounter traffic changes when approaching work zones including lane closures, lane shifts, uneven road surfaces, slow-moving heavy equipment and slow or stopped traffic.

To keep everyone safe, drivers must:
Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
Drive undistracted. Avoid using cell phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio – even eating –while in work zones.
Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work.
Do the zipper merge.
Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
