Fall Anstine Updates! 🍂
We are open every Saturday from 9am to 4pm – weather permitting. On November 15th, the preserve was closed due to rainy conditions, so please enjoy these photos showing what a rainy day can look like at Anstine!

The rains have also returned the seasonal stream that passes through the Riparian Trail: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1B1St0Wv1ytjgurGPLSIRKsb0Wd_25kXz/view?usp=sharing

Please note that when visiting after rain or damp conditions, most of the trails can be muddy. Take caution when exploring, especially on the Riparian Trail. 🌧️
It is the time of year when Hooded Mergansers can often be found in the preserve’s pond! So far, up to 7 individuals have been seen; though they are rather shy, so being quiet and respectful of their space is appreciated.

Fall rains are also one of the best times to get your native seeds in the ground. Stop by your local Native Seed Library or the ones located at Anstine and Silverwood to learn more and pick up some free native seeds. 🌱
Lastly, on December 6th, we will host the kickoff event for the monthly Anstine Preserve Projects that will be held on the first Saturday of each month! Volunteers are encouraged to help us tend to trails, remove invasive plants, and learn about the variety of life found at Anstine Nature Preserve.
We will be planting over 100 new plants onto the Overlook Trail. Registration and more information can be found on the SDBA Event Calendar: https://secure.sandiegobirdalliance.org/np/clients/sandiegobirdalliance/publicaccess/eventCalendarBig.jsp
Keep an eye out for upcoming information on the January 3rd, 2026 event where we will remove invasives from around the new native plants and water them!

We look forward to seeing you out at Anstine!
