I’m back and ready for what comes next! 💙

This morning, I am grateful to be out in Windsor for a Community Health Fair, connecting with neighbors and talking about something at the heart of why I do this work: keeping our communities healthy and strong.

Over the past month, I stepped away from the campaign trail to return to another place where I’m called to serve, our hospitals. As a physician, caring for patients and working alongside healthcare professionals keeps me grounded in the real challenges families face every day.

And as I return to community service, I’m incredibly proud of everything we accomplished together, and deeply thankful to every supporter, volunteer, organizer, donor, and community member who has stood with us. None of this work happens without you.

Serving our community doesn’t begin or end with an election. Whether I’m caring for patients in the hospital, meeting families at a community health fair, or fighting for a better future for Virginia’s Second District, my commitment remains the same: service first, always.

Thank you for believing in this movement. I’m proud of what we’ve built, proud of the work we’ve done, and excited to be back out in the community with you.

FLASH PROTEST HAPPENING NOW:
Hi everyone, I have some distressing news to share. An 18-year old US citizen with at-risk family was just kidnapped by ICE along with her husband and a group of others. She was on the phone with a friend at the time who tried to also tell ICE that she was a US citizen and the agents reportedly told her to "eat s**t because it doesn't matter" to them.

We believe she is being detained at the DHS field office at 200 Granby St in Norfolk and are calling for the 757 as a community to rally there as soon as possible to protest for their release and against the continuing overreach and abuse that is ICE. Hello, Hampton Roads.

I am back at work in our community today, headed over to the hospital to see patients, and I have an announcement I have been waiting to make.

🩺 I want to introduce you to the Care Action Network.

This will be a network across the 757 that connects people to care. Free health screenings. Mobile clinics. The everyday services so many of us are already providing.

🤝 Here is what I saw this past year.

So many of our communities are doing the exact same work in different cities, trying to reach each other, and simply not knowing how. A family should never miss a screening that is happening twenty minutes up the road.

We have to get connected.

💙 Organizations here have been doing this work for decades. Hampton Roads Community Action Program has served our families for more than 50 years, and that is exactly the kind of experience a connected network should be built on.

With the people I know now, and the networks we built together over the last year, I want to make sure Hampton Roads communities, citizens, and patients know each other and know that care is available.

🚀 We are getting started in a couple of weeks. I will keep you updated.

District 2, THANK YOU! 💙🙏🏽

Thank you to every volunteer who knocked a door, made a call, stood in the heat and/or rain, and every voter who believed in the values behind this progressive campaign. We pulled off an amazing feat last night with an almost 100% volunteer-based force and only 5% of the funding of our opponents, we still pulled off a whopping 16.2%! And because we stayed in the race, we helped activate Democratic voters to achieve one of the highest voter turnouts for a Democratic primary in District 2 in a decade (and that's including presidential years)!

This campaign was about representation for working people and rejecting corporations, billionaires, and special interests like AIPAC, who buy our political system. Community-centered and people-powered from the first day to the last, we got this far because of you, not because of anyone writing a check. 🗳️

Team Nila, you showed up with passion, with dedication, and with a real promise to build a better future. I could not have done a single part of this without you.

I also want to congratulate Elaine Luria on becoming our Democratic nominee for Virginia's Second District.

And don't worry, I'm not going anywhere! District 2 is my home, and I want to be clear about what comes next, because the work does not stop when a primary ends. It is our duty to turn Virginia blue in November. 💙
