VBPD is aware and will have extra officers monitor the area. Such events require a special permit, which in this case, was not obtained in time from the City.

Anyone caught gathering on private property without permission could result in trespassing charges.

Hey Virginia Beach, let's have a safe and fun Labor Day 😎

That means no bikes on our boardwalk, no e-bikes on our boardwalk, and definitely no motorcycles. Seriously.

Traffic Alert- VBPD is working a crash involving a school bus at the intersection of Witchduck Road/Aragona Boulevard.

Please avoid the area. No injuries were reported on the school bus.

All traffic lanes are blocked on Witchduck Road. The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) is rerouting traffic. Kellam Road is open to Hinsdale Street to access Independence Boulevard. Jericho Road is open to access Witchduck Road. There is no estimated time for when the intersection will reopen.

The VBPD has heard repeated requests from our community, including recent survey results from the Mayor’s Safety Task Force, for increased enforcement at the Oceanfront.

This past Friday night, Oceanfront Community Oriented Policing (OCOP) Bike Squad officers issued 17 citations, made four arrests, and recovered two illegally possessed fi****ms, to include:

• Dareon Demetrius Queshon Greene (M/35) of Norfolk: Charged with concealed weapon and firearm by felon.

• Javontae Jermiah Conyers (M/21) of Chesapeake: Charged with concealed weapon and firearm by felon.

On Saturday, OCOP issued 55 citations, made six arrests, and recovered another illegally possessed firearm. In the last 60 days, officers have recovered a total of 30 fi****ms in our Resort Area.

Our efforts haven't just increased in the past couple of months. So far this year, VBPD has made 1,045 arrests at the Oceanfront involving 923 separate individuals (yes, some individuals have been arrested more than once). Of these arrests, we obtained 1,281 misdemeanor and 234 felony charges, to include the recent arrest from a 2025 shooting where the individual got away but couldn’t escape the consequences forever. Our detectives are tenacious and have long memories.

Rest assured, we have heard your calls, we are on the ground, and we will remain relentless in our work to keep the Oceanfront safe.

Look who VBPD found crying near the dumpster 💔

Don't worry, our VBPD officers scooped her right up after they found the kitten crying beneath a cardboard box by the dumpster. They took her to the 3rd Precinct, bestowed her the name "Sweet Little Matilda," and gave her lots of love.

In fact, there was so much love - there are 'talks' about adopting Matilda once she gets a bit stronger 🤫

But for now, Matilda is recovering at Virginia Beach Animal Services and Adoption Center because her eye needs medication. That said, it is kitten season, and there are a lot of Matildas out there! Virginia Beach Animal Services really needs your help in fostering, as we are dealing with an influx of kittens.
