VB City council meets Feb 11-12 for their retreat during which they will discuss acquiring Pleasant Hall. The Kempsville Citizens Advisory Committee has sent a recommendation letter supporting pursuing the purchase however the VB Historic Preservation Commission has not. Its unthinkable to have no support from the HSP commission. Their rationale is unclear. What other landmark in Historic Kempsville could possibly be considered as historic as Pleasant Hall?

When the NW quadrant in Historic Kempsville, (site of Pleasant Hall, and its grounds) becomes a park-like, mixed-use open space area with foot traffic, imagine the enticement for developers to come in and create a "Merchant's Square" area (Think: Williamsburg) in the other quadrants and spaces. Let's make the Historic Kempsville city plan actually happen.

Our non profit start up created this page to post information about Pleasant Hall. I'm sorry if we lead anyone to believe we operate it. We are currently asking the city to buy it. Pleasant Hall is NOT being operated by any non profit except the current seller--- a church!!! This page was created to draw attention and gather support to save it for public use. Attention is growing and we need more people to contact Jessica Abbott, city council, and the city manager.
It is owned now by Kempsville Baptist Church who kept it in excellent condition. It is on the market and currently serious buyers are considering purchasing and have taken some steps to do so. IT IS NOT TOO LATE FOR VB CITY TO STEP IN AND MAKE AN OFFER!!!

Sadly, Virginia Beach city council has missed an historical opportunity to purchase one of the last two authentic historical sites in Historic Kempsville. A contract by a private entity has been submitted to purchase Pleasant Hall. Most likely no public access will be offered.
