"We’re very proud of the 529th and what they’ve done,” said Brig. Gen. Todd Hubbard, Virginia National Guard Director of the Joint Staff. “Over the last 12 months we’ve briefed the Governor and Secretary of Veterans and Defense Affairs on what the 529th was doing in Poland. We are very appreciative and very thankful for what you did for the country and for the commonwealth. Thank you and we are very proud of you.”

Maj. Eddie D. Bailey III takes command of the Virginia Beach-based 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group from Lt. Col. Carlos M. Maldonado during a ceremony Feb. 8, 2025, at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia. Col. Juanita Rohler, commander of the 329th RSG, presided over the exchange of unit colors that represented the transfer of command from Maldonado to Bailey. Command Sgt. Maj. David Elliott, the 529th CSSB senior enlisted leader, was the keeper of the colors for the ceremony.

Soldiers returned to the United States Nov. 19, conducted medical evaluation and administrative tasks at Fort Cavazos, Texas, to transition from federal active duty to traditional National Guard status and returned to airports closest to their home of record. The 529th was responsible for logistics, maintenance and supply missions based at Forward Operating Site Karliki, Poland until their transfer of authority conducted Nov. 6. Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to the Virginia Beach-based 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group reunite with family, friends and VNG senior leaders Nov. 27, 2024, in Virginia after serving on federal active duty in Poland since March 2024. Soldiers returned to the United States Nov. 19, conducted medical evaluation and administrative tasks at Fort Cavazos, Texas, to transition from federal active duty to traditional National Guard status and returned to airports closest to their home of record. The 529th was responsible for logistics, maintenance and supply missions based at Forward Operating Site Karliki, Poland until their transfer of authority conducted Nov. 6. Approximately 40 Soldiers assigned to the Virginia National Guard’s Virginia Beach-based 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group return to the United States Nov. 19, 2024, after serving federal active duty in Poland since January 2024. The Soldiers will conduct administrative tasks at their de-mobilization station of Fort Cavazos, Texas, to begin transitioning back to a traditional National Guard status, but an exact date for their return has not been finalized.

A group of about 20 529th Soldiers already returned home, and a small contingent of Soldiers are conducting transportation support in Poland and will return later this month.

Brig. Gen. Charles B. Martin, Commander of the Virginia Army National Guard, Col. Juanita F. Rohler and Command Sgt. Maj. Joseph R. Viera, the 329th RSG command team, and Col. Gregory J. Geiger, commander of the Mobilization Support Brigade, greeted the Soldiers and thanked them for their service. The 329th command team also presented challenge coins to select Soldiers for outstanding duty performance.

The 529th took responsibility for logistics, maintenance and supply missions based at Forward Operating Site Karliki, Poland, in March 2024, and they conducted a transfer of authority ceremony with the Georgia National Guard’s 110th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion Nov. 6 in Zagan Palace in Zagan, Poland.
