May 26, 2026

Effective immediately, the Mecklenburg County, Virginia burn ban has been lifted.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation over the last several weeks while conditions remained extremely dry and hazardous.

Even though the burn ban has been lifted, conditions can still change quickly and outdoor burning should always be done safely and responsibly. Before burning, clear the area around the fire to help prevent it from spreading. In accordance with Virginia law, any fire located within 150 feet of dry grass, brush, woods, or other combustible material must be constantly attended by a competent person with adequate fire suppression equipment readily available. Fires should never be left unattended and must be completely extinguished before leaving the area.

Please remember that anyone responsible for starting a wildfire can be held liable for suppression costs and damages.

As always, use common sense, monitor weather conditions, and avoid burning on windy days.

Thank you again for helping us protect Mecklenburg County.

🚨 As EMS Week draws to a close, we have big news for Mecklenburg County. 🚨

Today, Friday, May 22, 2026, Mecklenburg County Emergency Services officially placed the order for the specialized equipment necessary to begin providing whole blood administration in the field.

🩸 This marks a major advancement in prehospital emergency care for our community.

Whole blood has proven to improve outcomes in patients suffering from severe traumatic injuries and hemorrhagic shock by allowing life saving blood replacement to begin sooner, when minutes matter most.

Over the coming weeks, our teams will be focused on:
• Provider training and education
• Equipment setup, testing, and operational readiness.

This is another important step forward as Mecklenburg County Emergency Services continues working to bring the highest level of care possible to the citizens and visitors of Mecklenburg County.

We are excited about what this program will mean for the future of care in our community, and we look forward to sharing more updates as we move closer to implementation.

🔥 BURN BAN UPDATE MAY 8, 2026 🔥

The Mecklenburg County burn ban remains in effect at this time.

While we have received some much-needed rainfall over the last couple of days, conditions are still not where they need to be for us to safely lift the burn ban. Vegetation is only beginning to green back up, and many areas remain dry enough for fires to spread quickly.

We understand that many residents are anxious to resume outdoor burning, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this period. Our goal is to ensure conditions are truly safe before allowing open burning to resume.

Additional rain is forecasted for this weekend, and Emergency Services, along with our public safety partners, will reevaluate conditions again next week.

Until then, the burn ban remains in place.

Thank you for helping us keep Mecklenburg County safe.

Please join us in congratulating Ryan Crutchfield on his promotion to Deputy Director of Emergency Services.

Ryan’s roots in EMS trace back to right here in Mecklenburg County, where he first got his start in the field. Over the course of his career, he has earned a reputation for clinical excellence, strong leadership, and an unwavering commitment to patient care. Prior to joining our team, Ryan dedicated many years to serving Dinwiddie County, where he held multiple leadership roles and played a key part in the growth and development of their Fire and EMS system.

As the Deputy Director, Ryan will oversee the EMS division, helping lead operations and continue strengthening the delivery of emergency medical services across our county.

Ryan will officially assume this role on July 1st.

April 30, 2026 Update:

🔥 Burn Ban Still in Effect 🔥

Although we’ve had some recent rain, including a good soaking last night, conditions are still not safe for outdoor burning.

The burn ban that went into effect on April 7 remains in place at this time.

Even with rainfall, vegetation and ground fuels remain dry beneath the surface and can quickly become hazardous again.

We are continuing to monitor conditions and the drought index. As soon as it’s safe to resume outdoor burning, we will notify the public.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep our community safe.

Effective April 7th at 4:00 PM, Mecklenburg County will implement a ban on ALL outdoor open-air burning until further notice. THIS BAN PROHIBITS ALL BURNING 24 HOURS A DAY!

Over the past several weeks, our fire departments have responded to an increase in brush fires across the county. Combined with ongoing dry conditions, low humidity, and the lack of meaningful rainfall in the forecast, the risk for fire spread remains high.

This burn ban is being put in place to help protect our communities, our responders, and our natural resources.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and ask that you help us keep Mecklenburg County safe.
