The U.S. Army School of Music (USASOM) cadre introduced Advanced Individual Training class 25-004 to some of the music performance teams (MPTs) in the Army. Students learned about MPTs they will be involved in while training at the USASOM.

One of the many skills that we teach at the U.S. Army School of Music is effective and efficient practicing. Army musicians are required to be ready to perform music in a variety of genres and styles, often in a very short amount of time. The AIT soldiers were able to work with our staff and faculty prior to their initial assessments on effective and efficient practice methods. Establishing positive practice habits is one of the best ways to be successful in the Army Bands!

Just like that, AIT Class 25-004 has officially started! Over the next 10 weeks, these highly motivated soldiers will be tested on their physical and mental toughness in order to graduate as Army Musicians. Our drill sergeant team is ready to inspire these soldiers to be the best Army Musicians possible. Wish these soldiers the best of luck in their training!

As part of their requirements for graduation, the NCOs from the Advanced Leaders Course gave their culminating performance in front of students, faculty, and staff last week to much delight. Being able to perform as part of a Musical Performance Team is only a portion of what they are graded on; they are also graded on their ability to lead a Musical Team and effectively organize a performance in a very limited amount of time. We can't wait to see what new skills they are able to take back to their units!

Last week, Master Sgt. Robert Martin from the U.S. Army Strings (The United States Army Band "Pershing's Own") came down and taught a basic combatives course to the Basic Officers Course, as well as USASOM staff and faculty. Fun fact: many musicians within the Army Bands also have specialized combat related certifications that are utilized throughout the Army!

For every Soldier, Patriot Day is a reminder of why we serve. We honor the memory of those who were lost, the heroes who ran toward danger, and the families who carry their legacy.

Today, we pause to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the heroes who answered the call in the face of unimaginable tragedy. We remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience that united our nation.

To those who serve and protect, and to the families who carry the memory of loved ones, we stand with you.

Congratulations to our most recent graduates of the Bandmaster Warrant Officer Basic Course! These fine soldiers made the transition from enlisted to Warrant Officers, and will soon take command of their own Band Units back home. We wish them all the best as they continue to develop as leaders and commanders.

Recently, CASCOM Command Sergeant Major James LaFratta and his team took time out of their schedules to observe our AIT soldiers in the field during their culminating training event. He spoke with senior leadership and our AIT soldiers on the important role the Army Bands play in the Army, and took the time to visit with the trainees so they could ask their own questions to better prepare for their careers in the Army.

And just like that, another cycle has ended! We were happy to graduate AIT Class 25-003 last Thursday. We at USASOM are incredibly proud of these soldiers hard work and overall dedication for the past 10 weeks, including a hurricane almost invading their training events!

Last week, our Warrant Officer and Commissioned Officer students participated in a conductiing masterclass utilizing the AIT 25-003 Concert Band and USASOM staff and faculty. It was a mutual chance for the Officers to finely hone their skills in a reallistic scenario, as well as for the AIT soldiers to observe and react to different styles of conducting.

Who says you can't have some fun in training? Recently, SSG Jermal Jenkins and the USASOM ceremonial team led a block of instruction for the AIT soldiers on how to properly conduct and perform in a classic "New Orleans" style brass band parade. This jazz style of parade performance is a cultural mainstay in Lousiana and Southern states in the US, but has become more popular nation-wide over the last several years.
