Our Story

Green Run High School officially commissioned one of the first NJROTC Units in Virginia Beach, VA in 1989. At the time Green Run was one of the largest high schools in the state, educating a very diverse and talented group of students.

Now Green Run is one of the smallest in the State, hosting one of the smallest NJROTC Units in Area 5; currently sharing Virginia Beach with 4 other NJROTC Units (First Colonial, Landstown, Princess Anne, Salem).

Despite its size in comparison to other units, Green Run has won multiple State/Area 5 Championships and competed in numerous Navy National Championships; including the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 Virtual Navy Nationals Championships. The unit came in 8th at Navy Nationals in 2015; in 2016 First Runner up; 2017 and 2018 US Navy JROTC National Champions and in 2019 First Runner Up. Achieved what no other school has done, 4 years in a row in the top two spots for Navy Nationals.

The unit has also been designated, several times, as a Naval Honor and Distinguished Unit.
