Through the Adopt a Cow program, students in Virginia followed along as calves Petunia and Rosie from Cave Hill Dairy grew throughout the year. This spring, Farmer Courtney even hosted a virtual visit so students could see the calves up close—check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/live/jchb4P6WyhI?si=oN_4Sq1XbiFTJvCJ
The Adopt a Cow program is a free, year‑long experience for your classroom. Teachers are paired with a calf from their state and receive updates on her growth along with photos, videos, activity sheets, and ready‑to‑use lesson plans throughout the school year. Enrollment for the upcoming school year is open now! Learn more and sign up at www.discoverdairy.com/adopt

Leaving residue is great for your soil, partially due to these little guys! 🐞

Crop residue provides food and shelter for above-ground insects. They eat the residue and help to break it down throughout the winter, creating organic matter for the soil. Residue management is an important part of a soil health system. Leaving crop residue, strip tilling, reduced tillage, and cover crops are all components to residue management that can increase soil organic matter and overall soil health and structure.
